Skilling backpack detail

The skilling backpack is an item that can be earned in several forms as a reward from the July 2016 Boat to the Arc event of the Port Sarim Invasion. This item can be obtained by claiming it from the reward chest located next to Seasinger Umi. It is also rewarded automatically during the August 2018 Return of the Pack event on Treasure Hunter (if not previously obtained) or (if already owned) will be upgraded to a new version with additional benefits, including all those of the highest tier from the Boat to the Arc event.

Originally, the backpack could be upgraded based on personal and community progress within the Boat to the Arc event. Both personal progress and the community progress must have reached the threshold to receive the reward, with the latter having reached 100%. This means that the backpack's variant was dictated by personal progress. It came with charges based on the threshold the player had achieved and could not be recharged.

During the Return of the Pack promotion in August 2018, opening Treasure Hunter will automatically award this item, replacing any previous versions obtained from the Port Sarim invasion. Any remaining charges are carried over, and the updated version will give the highest-tiered benefits, regardless of the player's original variant (which was based on personal progress in the Boat to the Arc event).

The experience boost is seen as a buff 'Skilling Backpack XP Boost'. Experience bonus is calculated off the base experience and stacks additively with both effects from advanced pulse cores. If the player unequips the backpack after receiving the buff, the buff persists but doesn't give bonus experience until the backpack is reequipped. The buff timer continues to count down while the player is logged out.

  • Version 5 of the backpack gives a 3% experience boost instead of 5%.

Trivia[]

  • Wearing the backpack causes other players who are also wearing one to appear as blue dots on the minimap, just like when wearing the same team cape.
  • When attempting to keepsake the backpack, a message will appear saying a replica will be keepsaked instead, rather than the item itself. If confirmed, the player will save a replica version of the backpack as a cosmetic override and keep the actual backpack in the inventory.
