Skeletons are undead monsters found in various locations around RuneScape. They are also vulnerable to Earth Spells. The skeleton class is very weak against crush attacks, and the Skeleton is no different. A Salve amulet or Salve amulet (e) provide a Strength and accuracy boost of +15% and +20% respectively against Skeletons. Many skeletons are aligned with the god Zamorak, but others have absolutely nothing to do with him.
The skeletons found throughout the Wilderness are aggressive to all players, regardless of level, like most monsters found there. These skeletons are known to have a higher rate of dropping some of the less common herbs, making them a good way to make some decent money.
There is a very high number of skeletons in the game compared most other monsters. They are found all over RuneScape, in relation to almost any area. Some such locations are:
This table may be incomplete, as skeletons appear in a great many places. Also, a number of the locations have limited access such as being in members only areas, requiring quests to enter, requiring the ability to enter a guild, etc. Consider checking the location's description before going there to hunt skeletons.
The skeleton cave in the Chaos Tunnels is easily accessed from entrance #1 to tunnels and is thus moderately close to the Edgeville bank. However, care should be taken in that entrance #1 is in low-level Wilderness and also enters the cave with rather dangerous Gargoyles. The tunnels are a multiway combat area, and aggressive Zombies in the cave with the skeletons may interfere with skeleton hunting.
Skeletons are one of the races who have lesser champions in the Champions' Challenge activity. To fight the Skeleton Champion, the player must kill skeletons until one drops a Champion scroll, which is a very rare drop. Obtaining the scroll usually takes several hours of dedicated skeleton hunting, and is best done on lower level skeletons to increase the kill rate as much as possible.
Note:This drop table is an amalgamation of different varieties of skeleton, and doesn't necessarily give a good indication of what a particular skeleton will drop.
The level 25 skeletons have 170 LP, 120 less than the level 22 skeletons with 290 LP.
As of 9 November 2009, various skeletons' combat animations and sounds have been reworked.
The level 45 skeletons in the Crandor and Karamja Dungeon seem taller than the other skeletons.
The skeletons in the Barrows did not drop the champion scroll for several years. This bug was eventually fixed.
When in a player-owned-house oubliette or dungeon when building mode is on, they are called Bones.
The examine text for the level 100 Giant Skeleton asks the question whether this creature is a giant skeleton or a skeleton of a giant, suggesting this undead creature may originate from human or giant remains.
The observed size of giant skeletons suggests that they are merely oversized skeletons as they are, in fact, smaller than any known giant.
