Silver ore is a type of ore that can be obtained through the Mining skill in various places throughout RuneScape. It can be smelted using the Smithing skill to form a silver bar, giving the player 13.7 smithing XP. It can then be crafted into various types of jewellery through the Crafting skill, but cannot be smithed into weapons or armour with the exception of the silver sickle and silver bolts.
Silver ore can be mined with a Mining level of 20 or higher, granting 40 Mining experience. After being mined, a silver rock takes an average of 2 minutes to respawn.
Silver ore is popular in non-member worlds as it can be smithed and made into tiaras for crafting experience.
One of the best places to mine silver ore is the Crafting Guild. It is far from a furnace and bank, but in return boasts the highest concentration of silver rocks in F2P worlds. Silver ore can also be stolen through the Thieving skill from a market stall in Ardougne and also in Keldagrim. Another alternative is the mine north of Al-Kharid (in this mine one silver rock is exhausted - See Exhausted silver ore), but it is often full. Also in Al-Kharid, there are large brown scorpions which are level 14, so beware when mining, although low-level players can avoid them by bringing plenty of food and staying clear of them at the right times. Silver ore can also be found in the mine south-west of Varrock, near the main south entrance where the dark wizards are, although the mine is safe from their interference. The Karamja volcano has 3 spawn locations and there is a bank nearby for members.
One tactic is to mine a full inventory at the Crafting Guild, then use a Ring of Duelling to teleport to Castle Wars, then return to the guild using a Skills Necklace.
Silver ore can be obtained in quantities of 100 (noted) as rare drops from higher level monsters.
[edit] Respawn rate
Silver ore, like all other mined rocks, respawns at a rate directly proportional to the number of people in the rock's RuneScape world. If the world is empty, the ore respawns in 2 minutes; if it is full (with 2000 players), it respawns in 1 minute. Thus the respawn rate of silver ore is
where x is the number of players in the world.
A table of respawn rates is given below.
| Players | 0 | 200 | 400 | 600 | 800 | 1000 | 1200 | 1400 | 1600 | 1800 | 2000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Respawn time | 2:00 | 1:54 | 1:48 | 1:42 | 1:36 | 1:30 | 1:24 | 1:18 | 1:12 | 1:06 | 1:00 |
It is worthwhile to note that silver ore has the same respawn rate as gold ore.
