Sharks can be fished by any members who have level 76 Fishing or higher, and require level 80 Cooking to cook. They heal 20 hitpoints each. Sharks are fished with harpoons. They can also be fished without harpoons but require a fishing level of 96 and a strength level of 76 and some completion of Barbarian Training. Raw Sharks can be caught at any net/harpoon fishing spots, which can be found at the Fishing Guild, Catherby, Burgh de Rott, Rellekka, Jatizso, and north west of the Elf Camp. Sharks can also be caught by granite lobsters, a summoning familiar. Sharks give 110 fishing experience per catch and 210 cooking experience when cooked. Raw shark is the tertiary ingredient in infusing Bunyip pouches. Players will stop burning sharks at level 94 cooking, though only if they have Cooking gauntlets. They can still be burned at level 99 without them.
Sharks are the most popular food for members because they are the highest-healing food that can be easily caught in large amounts. There are a few better foods, but these are difficult to obtain in large amounts, making them expensive and rare. Because of this, sharks are widely used for player killing, duelling, and questing. In early 2007, sharks had dropped in price from 1000 coins each to 800 coins each due to fishing macros releasing so many of them into the economy. They also went through a depression stage where they were as low as 400gp each, but have recovered slightly after mass bannings of the macros, causing the price to rebound back to 800 coins each. And due to an update that got rid of almost every macro in the game on December 10th 2007, the prices of sharks have begun to skyrocket, rising to well over 900 coins.
Raw sharks can be offered to the Fremennik spirit Fossegrimen, who will then bless a lyre with two charges to teleport to Rellekka (although it is cheaper to use a bass while wearing the ring of charos(a)).
If you're lucky, you may get a big shark while fishing. These can be hung up in your Skill Hall in player-owned houses.
