Scarab mages are encountered during the Contact! quest. They attack using Magic. Their magic attack looks like a swarm of beetles and are able to hit over 350, but is normally likely to hit around 190 LP.

Warning: Scarab mages are able to extinguish a player's light source. Bring a tinderbox (toolbelt works) or a Seers' headband!

Interestingly, if you are using a Seers' headband as a light source, you may still receive the message that the mage has extinguished your light source, although, of course, it hasn't.

They take an unusually long time between spellcasting attacks, almost 6 seconds allowing prayer flashing to be used. This somewhat compensates for their high accuracy and max hit.
