Sardines are one of the first items that can be cooked, at level 1 cooking required, but require level 5 fishing to catch by using fishing rod and a fishing bait in a bait fishing spot in a sea. They can be cooked by using a raw sardine with a fire or a range, and the sardines can be consumed to heal 4 hitpoints. Players stop burning sardines at around level 34. They are the most efficient food in the game, costing 1 gp per health. However, they're only useful for low-level training, or instances where players won't take much damage.

As they are fish, raw and cooked sardines can be used to feed Kittens. In the quest Gertrude's Cat, players have to rub a sardine with Doogle leaves to feed a kitten. This creates a Doogle sardine. Note that the doogle sardine can not be used to feed player-owned kittens.
They can be caught at Catherby shore, Karamja dock, the southern shore of Al-Kharid, Lumbridge Swamps' Fishing location, Draynor Village, and just north of Mudskipper Point by Thurgo's shack. They can be purchased from Gerrant's Fishy Business in Port Sarim.
In Creature Creation a Spidine (42) is made from 1 Red spiders' eggs and 1 Raw Sardine
