Locations
Edit
A Saradomin wizard will always appear whilst digging at the location of a level 3 coordinate clue, outside of the Wilderness unless you use the Meerkat familiars special which brings up the casket/scroll box without disturbing the wizard.
Strengths and weaknesses
Edit
Saradomin wizards are much more powerful than their counterpart, Zamorak wizards. They attack with the former Saradomin Strike spell when using magic, and use a poisoned Dragon dagger when using melee. The magic attack is quite accurate and can damage into the 400s and 500s. Their melee attack is extremely accurate and has an almost 100% chance to cause poison, whether or not the attack deals any direct damage (similar to Cave slime). They change their attack styles if protection prayers are used. For example, they only use magic if Protect from Melee is used. Since the magic attacks do not cause poison, it is possible to bypass the need for antipoison by using a melee prayer and hence preventing them from using their melee attacks. They are weak to arrows, so bring the best bow you can wield, along with high level ranged armour.
Tips for killing
Edit
- If you run away from the wizard and return to the fight with Deflect/Protect from Magic activated, he will only attack using magic. This can reduce his damage significantly.
- It is a good idea to bring the best ranged armour you can wear and a good bow when doing level 3 clues. Before digging, turn on Protect from Melee. This will prevent him from using his melee attack and thus poisoning you. When the Saradomin Wizard appears, hide behind a nearby obstacle, turn on the Protect from Magic or the Deflect Magic prayer, and range him. Don't panic if he does manage to poison you and you don't have a means of curing it; it will wear off relatively quickly, and he won't be able to reach you with his melee attack from behind the obstacle.
- If using magic, bring runes for the best spell you can cast and use a high levelled staff or wand.
- The anti-poison totem does prevent him from causing poison with melee, but it has low armour bonuses and also prevents you from exploiting his weakness to arrows (you can still use a crossbow or throwing weapons).
- It is not recommended to melee him unless you have chaotic or Drygore weaponry, as he has high melee defence.

Trivia
Edit
- Previously, wielding an Anti-poison totem before digging would not prevent the wizard from causing poison, even if the player was unpoisoned prior to digging. This glitch was fixed on 15 June 2010.
- When the Saradomin wizard casts his spell, players can hear if it has splashed or hit before the projectile reaches them. This may be a glitch or oversight.
- If you move away from the wizard while using Protect from Melee or Deflect Melee, he will follow you so that he is in melee range when he should be able to cast long-distance spells since he is using magic.
- When digging for a clue scroll and a Saradomin Wizard attacks, if you dig again, another wizard will attack you if you are hiding from the attacks of the first Wizard.
