A salve shard is a piece of a crystal outcrop at the very bottom of the Mort Ridge Mines, imbued with the holy power of the River Salve following the First Battle of the Salve. It is the essential part needed to make the reward from the Haunted Mine quest, the Salve amulet. Salve shards are obtained by chiselling one of the outcrops at the bottom level of the mine.
Note that the drop trick works when trying to obtain multiple shards, but all shard-containing items must be dropped in order to be able to chip off more shards, meaning that not only individual shards, but all amulets in one's possession must be dropped as well (except for the Salve amulet (e)).
