Sacred Clay Armour and Weapons
From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape
Sacred clay armour is a reward bought from Stealing creation minigame with points earned by playing the game.
Sacred Clay armour gives a staggering double experience bonus. In order to maximise the efficiency of training, it is recommended to use a rotation method: wear one piece of Sacred clay armour at a time while using a regular weapon like a whip (note this is only recommended for strength armour like Bandos/ helm of Neitiznot, etc,). In this way, you can have the high bonuses of your regular equipment, while still gaining the double experience bonus. However if you use a full set, it will all degrade at a divided rate, but you still have the lower bonuses. You do not need to have a corresponding armour piece with whatever skill you're training in order to receive the double experience bonus. For example, you could be wearing a Sacred Clay coif and train melee, while still getting the double experience bonus.
Players are better off buying only one set of Sacred Clay armour and recharging it, as it costs much less per set recharged, in comparison to buying multiple sets.
Sacred Clay items have 'charge', which is consumed as the player receives combat experience. When the items run out of charge, they will not yield the double experience bonus, and won't be able to transform until they are recharged. Each piece will give an xp boost until about 33300 experience, with time being irrelevant. Players will always get 33300 experience per piece no matter how many pieces they equip, but with more pieces, the whole set will degrade more slowly. This is because if all 4 pieces were equipped they would give a total of 133220 exp before all pieces are fully degraded (33300*4). Whether you equip one or two or all four, you will get the constant 33300 experience per piece of equipment over the life of the set. The prices to buy these items are following:
- Helm: 24 points
- Body: 30 points
- Legs: 28 points
- Weapon: 26 points
The prices to recharge these items are the following.
- Helm: 20 points
- Body: 20 points
- Legs: 20 points
- Weapon: 20 points

They can switch between each other by operating them. This can be done an infinite number of times, granted you have any percent of charge left. Operating one piece of armour while wearing a full set will cause all the pieces to transform. They are also remarkably lightweight, at only 2 kg each.
Level 40 defence is required to wield the melee armour, and 40 attack is needed for the scimitar. Level 40 Magic and defence is required to wear/wield the mage armour. Level 40 Range and defence is required to wear/wield the range armour

The set consists of Sacred clay helmet, Sacred clay platebody, Sacred clay platelegs, and Sacred clay scimitar.
Sacred clay melee equipment stats are equal to Full Rune armour and Rune scimitar. Note that you do not need to complete Dragon Slayer to wear Sacred clay platebody which is required for wearing a Rune platebody. Since Sacred Clay pieces do not change weight when they transform, this set is extremely light for melee armour, just 8 kg for the whole set. These facts make it an appealing alternative to Rune armour for some players.

The set consists of Sacred clay staff, Sacred clay hat, Sacred clay robe top and Sacred clay robe bottoms
Sacred clay mage equipment stats are equal to Mystic robes and Mystic staff. Note that you need 40 defence, 20 levels more than that required for mystic armour, however, the mystic armour is far more expensive, as the Sacred clay mage equipment can be obtained through a few hours of playing, while it may take far longer to get enough money for mystic armour.
The experience boost does not work with non-combat spells such as high alchemy.

The set consists of Sacred clay bow, Sacred clay coif, Sacred clay body and Sacred clay chaps.
Sacred clay range equipment stats are equal to Green dragonhide armour, coif and a Yew longbow. Note that you do need 40 defence level but do not need to have done Dragon Slayer for the body which is required for wearing a green dragonhide body.
It is a common method to train range with just the Sacred Clay coif in combination with red chinchompas, in order to gain massive amounts of experience in a short amount of time.
Experience from the dwarf multicannon is doubled as well.
[edit] Trivia
- For a while, the double experience effects of the armour applied in free-to-play worlds.
- If one were to open the defence information window and click on the equipment tab, it would show that the Sacred clay melee armour is available for free players, even though it is only available to members. This has been fixed.
- There was a glitch that would cause the player to wield a shield and a Sacred clay bow at the same time.
- There is a glitch where if you are to wear Sacred clay coif or hat and transform it while wearing you can change your hairstyle.
- There was also a glitch where the sacred clay helmet, when transformed into a magic hat, would instead transform into a magic robe bottom. The one way to bypass this glitch would be to operate the helmet twice while wearing it, turning it into first a ranged coif, then into the magic hat. This was fixed three days after the original release.
- The Sacred clay mage staff has a strength bonus of +50 and it has no attack or strength requirements. This means that anyone with 40 mage can have an extremely strong Melee weapon. This is similar to the Obsidian maul which allow people with just 60 strength to wield an extremely strong weapon.
- The Sacred clay mage staff has a higher strength bonus(+50) than that of the Sacred clay scimitar(+44).
- When the items run out of charge, they stay in the form they were previously in, and retain all their former combat abilities. They simply cannot switch to different armour types, and they give no experience bonus. This means that you can still have the sacred clay armour, strong as rune, but very lightweight.
- When Stealing Creation was first released, the Armour and Weapons' had their charges measured by remaining transformations. Each Stealing Creation item had eight transformations before needing to be recharged. This was quickly changed by Jagex to the degrading system used today because the weapons and armour had rune stats, but only took a fraction of the time to obtain.
