A Sabre-toothed kyatt is an animal that can be trapped using the Hunter skill at level 55. These are caught using a teasing stick to provoke them and then by luring them over pitfall traps. The pitfall traps are set using a log and a knife on the pitfall. There are dead trees which can be cut to obtain the logs. Sabre-toothed kyatts can not be attacked by players. The kyatts are typically non-aggressive, but once teased by a player, kyatts retaliate with melee attacks. Their maximum hit is 7 damage.

[edit] Strategy

An easy way to catch these would be to bring a hatchet to cut down the trees located around the hunter area. You will need a knife and a teasing stick as well. Set a trap on the southern pit, tease the one that spawns just north of that and jump the pit. Walk over 2 or down 2 spaces so you dont get stunned if the Kyatt jumps the pit too.

Bringing the Seer's Headband 3 also helps as it supplies the wielder with 2 logs upon cutting down a dead or normal tree.

Catching a saber-toothed kyatt is part of the Fremennik Province Diary, being a medium task.

[edit] Habitat(s)

The Sabre-toothed kyatt can be found in the Trollweiss Hunter area.

[edit] Glitch

On rare occasions after you have captured a kyatt and it respawns the spikes from the pitfall trap are still under it even while it walks around. They eventually diminish after several minutes. This problem also occurs with the Graahk. It has yet to be removed by Jagex.
