The Runecrafting staff is an item sold at the Runecrafting Guild by Wizard Elriss for 10,000 Runecrafting guild tokens. Its primary use is to be combined with any talisman to be made into their respective Talisman staves (i.e. Fire talisman staff for Fire talisman) by using the staff on the altar with the talisman (or tiara) available.
These talisman staves may be used to access the particular altars they represent. These talisman staves have similar characteristics to tiaras and talismans as they allow access to Runecrafting altars. Jagex also said that the staff can also be used for "distracting the eyes in the Abyss Altar to help you sneak past".
Practically, this staff (Runecrafting staff) is only useful for members, as it can be combined with an Omni-talisman to create a Omni-talisman staff. The Omni-talisman staff allows access to all of the altars besides the Law altar. For non-members, access to this feature may be replaced by using tiaras, which are much easier to obtain and are tradeable.
Some members choose not to buy this staff because of its high cost. With the same amount of tokens, players can get 10,000 Pure essence which are worth 85 coins each. Therefore, the market price of the Runecrafting staff is equivalent to 850,000 coins plus the cost of the attached talisman. However, if free-to-play players were to buy 200 Water talismans instead which are worth 4,721 each, they would earn around 944,200 Gold Pieces, which would make the staff seem wasteful if a player was poor.
