A Rune square shield is a square shield made of runite. Players with level 93 Smithing can smith one using two Runite bars. Doing so yields 150 Smithing experience. It is sometimes considered rare as a minority of people have the ability to make these; no store on RuneScape sells them, and that they are scarcely made because of players preferring rune kiteshields.

However, since the release of Cockroach soldiers, it has been common for even free players to receive them as drops, and either sell or use High Alchemy.
