The Rune berserker shield is a reward that can be purchased with tokens from the Fist of Guthix minigame, but can also be bought (in it's uncharged state) on the grand exchange. It requires 45 defence to wield. When charged, it gives slightly higher defensive bonuses than a Rune kiteshield (along with a strength bonus), making it the second best free-to-play melee shield next to the Corrupt Dragon Square Shield (which is not easily obtained).

When combined with a Rune battleaxe, the Rune 2h sword only has +2 strength bonus more than that combination. Using those two together makes it have a higher damage per second rate than the Rune 2h, since the Rune 2h will only do 1 damage higher when comparing their maximum hits. This makes it better to use than the Rune 2h for serious combat. It is also comparable to the Obsidian shield, except that the Rune berserker shield has a lower strength bonus and a much lower ranged defence bonus. It is also arguably harder to acquire than the Obsidian shield.

Like Barrows equipment its bonuses will only decrease after the shield has completely degraded to 0%, but unlike Barrows equipment it does so after only 5 hours of solid combat. When completely degraded, or uncharged, it will have lower defence bonuses than a Black kiteshield but will retain a +2 strength bonus and become tradeable. It will cost 50 Fist of Guthix tokens to recharge it again.

When first released, its price skyrocketed from 150,000 to almost 340,000. It has since fallen to its current Grand Exchange price. It cannot be purchased in a set and cannot be bought trimmed. The Rune Berserker has also been confirmed to be a "normal" drop in PvP in its degraded form.

As with all Fist of Guthix equipment, this item cannot be made using the Smithing skill.
