Rune pickaxe detail

The Rune pickaxe is a pickaxe that is stronger than the Adamant pickaxe. It requires level 50 Attack to wield and level 41 Mining to mine with. It can be used in combat or in Mining to extract ore from rocks. It is also the strongest pickaxe available for non-members. (Members can acquire the Dragon pickaxe or Inferno Adze pickaxe - the former requires level 61 Mining; the latter requires level 41 Mining and level 92 Firemaking and mines at the same speed as rune pickaxe.) When a player mines with a rune pickaxe, they will obtain ores at a significantly faster rate than when using an Adamant pickaxe. Players can make a Rune pickaxe with the Smithing skill at level 90 by using 2 rune bars after the completion of the Perils of Ice Mountain quest. Rune pickaxes can be purchased from Nurmof's Pickaxe Shop in the Dwarven Mine and at Tati's Pickaxe-Is-Mine in Keldagrim. One is also received at the completion of the Between a Rock... quest. It is also a drop from Warped tortoises. A rune pickaxe is required for the TokTz-Ket-Dill quest. Although, an update made it so a Dragon Pickaxe could be a substitute.

The Rune pickaxe can be gilded by the Liquid gold nymph after receiving the full Golden mining suit, creating the Gilded rune pickaxe. It is cosmetic and gives no more bonuses than the regular pickaxe.

On 9 September 2009, the Rune pickaxe received an update to change its equipped figure and item image.

As of 17 June 2013, this pickaxe can be stored on a toolbelt.

TriviaEdit

  • When wielding the Rune Pickaxe, the attack screen shows that the combat style "Impale" is a stab attack, and that "Smash" is a crush attack; however, in battle it appears that, "Smash" shows the animation of a stab attack, and "Impale" shows the animation of a crush attack. This is because the pick-axe is rounded at the head and pointed at the sides.
  • Before the Grand Exchange, the rune pickaxe generally cost around 25,000 coins.
  • The Rune Pickaxe used against TokTz-Ket-Dill in dominion tower is golden named (showing it's a member's item), unlike the normal Rune Pickaxe which is silver named.
  • A mistake by Jagex allowed players to smith rune pickaxes using only 1 bar, for a short period after the Evolution of Combat was launched. Some level 90 smiths reportedly earned over a million experience and upwards of 70 million profit.
