Now officially confused regarding why the table's not working. Helpage. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 21:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Some of the templates have some pretty messed up mixed pipe & html table syntax, I'll try correcting one to see if that's breaking the outer table. Yes, they ARE broken, and whatever the "CENTER" bit is supposed to be doing doesn't even seem to operate at all. I prefer pipe syntax, unless there is any reason not to (eg. pipes would be ambiguous or apply to other operations instead of the table. Ace of Risk 00:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Psst! The userbox container code has gone weird. Can someone fix it? --Raven110283 08:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Ok, now i'm confused. When I tried to add it, I saw other templates like this:
|
|
|-

Why not do it like this?:

|
|User JalYt-Xil

I made mine the second way, it's much easier.EMG Blue 07:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Code Help

When I first started creating my user pages, I couldn't find too much on exactly how to create my own userbox. The base userbox template was nice, but I still wanted a little more to go on. That's why I decided to add something here to help others. (I wasn't sure if I should put this on the base userbox template page or not.)

Sometimes the pic that's available on the Userboxes just isn't the one you want. So, I've decided to throw a couple lines of code up here to help.

The above will produce:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2212/2097117960_143c653df3_o.pngThis user has mined 10k Rune Essence one or more times.

However, you can get the same results from this:

Yes, that above will also produce:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2212/2097117960_143c653df3_o.pngThis user has mined 10k Rune Essence one

Both of the images above use the direct link to a picture hosted elsewhere. id=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2212/2097117960_143c653df3_o.png

If you're using an image that is already on this site, your code will be a little different.

The above will produce this:

File:Rune Essence.PNGThis user has mined 10k Rune Essence one or more times.

The above uses the line of code for the picture. --Momenator70 05:57, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Quests?

Should we have quest userboxes? Those aren't nearly all of the quests, and even if we did add more, some userpages would be filled with too many userboxes.  C Teng talk 00:31, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Anyone agree?  C Teng talk 23:53, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Someone made separate userboxes for some of the quests, and I merged them together to avoid having all of them separate. It isn't really our problem if people have too many userboxes on their page, they can do whatever they want with it. They could be subst:-ed and deleted, but why bother, if people might use them in the future? Skill 23:57, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Non-RuneScape userboxes

Are we allowed to create userboxes for things not related to the game, such as "this user likes cheese and crackers" kind of thing? Leevclarke, AKA Max Bulldog File:Bulldogh.gif 19:56, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure Leevclarke. I created some on Nov. 20, 2007 on the Miscellaneous page but they were removed. IMO, they weren't any more controversial than what you created, and yet...So I say go ahead and take your chances. If they don't think they should be there, then they'll take them off as they did mine (see the History page of the Miscellaneous).

--Momenator70 03:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and created a new userbox - it's the Template:User doubts OJ|User doubts OJ template. It may be deleted if it's inappropriate (it does open the floodgates to every dog and his man creating random userboxes), but I thought "be bold and just do it".  ;-) Leevclarke, AKA Max Bulldog File:Bulldogh.gif 04:27, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
In respect of NPOV even if nothing else, I have also added Template:User trusts OJ|User trusts OJ.  :-) Leevclarke, AKA Max Bulldog File:Bulldogh.gif 04:34, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
After much debate, they were deleted as per consensus in the end. So no off-topic userboxes please.  ;-) Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 19:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Someone has made three new userboxes: Template:User_Angry, Template:User_Dance and Template:Userbox_WikiBerry, which don't have RuneScape-relevant pictures. I don't want to be a killjoy, and I know these were probably only created to brighten up their user page, but I'm not sure if they belong in the userbox lists in their current form. The first two would be easily "RuneScape-themed" by replacing the Halo dancing-masterchief and computer-hating stick figure animations with animations of the dance and angry emotes (possibly the clothing-enhanced ones). The last one is on a section with other non-RuneScape things, but this one is specifically Pokemon-related and I'm not sure if anything needs to be done about it.

[edit] Merging Templates

I don't know who did it in the first place, but someone needs to make the templates separate like they used to be. The ones like on religion and quests are annoyingly difficult to edit because the show preview button loses it function! -.-' Several templates like Armadyl and Zaros are in need of editing but the dumb combination makes it a pain to figure out. Templates should be like Template:Male and Template:User follows all Gods. They're easy to edit and don't create a hassle. If anyone has the time, please fix as well. Simply put, not all players are males. I already tried to fix it, but the brackets are past my knowledge of coding. AriasKnight 05:21, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] What to do after creating new userbox templates?

I just made a few userboxes that I thought might come in handy:

Bork
This user slays Bork daily for his charms.
This user prefers to slay their Jade Vine rather than prune it.
This user prefers to prune their Jade Vine rather than slay it.

Just wondering a few things:

Is there any protocol for linking these templates to the indexes, or should the creator just edit the userboxes in?

Neither Bork nor the Jade Vine are technically "Distractions and Diversions" but they are repeatable tasks much like the Phoenix. Is it worth expanding the category at the bottom to include repeatable tasks like these?

Is it permissable to upload an image if the only real relevance it has is to a userbox, or is it best to keep it on an external image hosting site?

I want to stop text wrapping around the side of the "Userboxes" template and make it display the userboxes side by side when it is set to have two columns. At the moment I can do neither of these things, and for some odd reason using tables to arrange them stretches them out of shape. Anyone know how to resolve these issues? Never mind, I solved this by removing class="wikitable" from the top. For some reason this was causing the table to mess with the userbox layouts inside it.

Just bung them in the table of wherever seems appropriate. I'd say Bork and the Jade vine are practically DnD's (personally, I think Jagex should reclassify them, along with Tears of Guthix, to DnDs), so I'd put them there. Maybe change the title of the section to "Distractions and Diversions, and other repeatable tasks". Quests FTW! Gaz Lloyd Calcs!Awesome 20:04, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Done and done. I'm not sure why but all of the userboxes look odd in tables, with the picture and text areas the wrong sizes and lined in 1 or 2 pixels of grey. It was doing that on my user page until I removed class="wikitable" from the table. Is there any concievable problem that could arise from removing the class descriptor? If not it might be worth removing them from all the userbox list pages to they look the same as when in the "Userboxes" container template. 20:22, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
I hadn't really noticed until you pointed it out. Good eye. I don't think there's a problem with removing it, as far as I know, it only changes the style of the table to have black 1px borders and a slight grey background, and the headers to be center, bold and darker grey. Not having it there just removes the borders and backgrounds... if needs be, the borders can be restored with separate parameters without using style="wikitable". Quests FTW! Gaz Lloyd Calcs!Awesome 20:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
I've edited all of the wikitable classes out and it's fixed the lot of them. The page for summoning did need borders however, and they look a little odd with the default white 3D effect. The only methods I could find documented on the internet to change borders alter the outer borders exclusively, leaving the inside borders still looking odd. 18:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] How do you make userboxes?

'Cos I don't know. MCMaglockers (talkcontribs) forgot to sign this comment on 13:12, April 16, 2009.

You should use this template - copy and paste the "Usage" template onto an apt template name (for example if you're creating a template about what games consoles a user has, you could put the userbox on Template:User console) and fill it in however you want. Alternativily, you could put the usage template on your userpage and fill it in for a unique userbox. Feel free to post here or on my talk page for more help. [edit] I can't quite wrap my head around this one

To allow players to state they now catch 10 penguins and the PBJ agent, I have tried to copy over the switch protocol from the User favcol userbox template into the PHAS userbox template, adding a |PBJ switch and retaining the original format of the userbox under the #default section to allow backwards compatibility with anyone who is currently using it. Trouble is, it doesn't work. The default version is displayed, even if the switch is included. Can someone apply a bit of code-fu to it and show me where my error is?
Image:Obsidian_charm.PNG
Magma2050
Image:Obsidian_charm.PNG
17:06, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see. #switch: is case sensitive - you're using {{lc:{}}} which forces whatever {} is to be lowercase, and the switch code is for the uppercase (PBJ) - so if you put "PBJ" in it forces it to be "pbj" then switching, and finding nothing, as pbj ≠ PBJ.
Or basically you should use uc: rather than lc:, I fixed it. Quests FTW! Gaz Lloyd Calcs!Awesome 18:37, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks a lot for your help. Just one letter was breaking the thing... I've tacked the now working entry onto the Miscellaneous section with the original.
