Fixing links to redirects with a bot Edit

Would it be possible to program a bot to look for pages that link to redirects and edit those links to instead link to the actual articles instead of the redirects? If so, I think we should do that. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 04:15, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Also? Using a bot to turn external links that link to wiki pages into internal wiki links. For example, changing [http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Grand Exchange Grand Exchange] into [[Grand Exchange]]. Unregistered users add these links pretty often. Come on, let's have a response here. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 06:21, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
I think Evil had some AWB .xml files lying around that fixes the second thing. 222 talk 06:25, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
I saw a bot fix the first thing once, not sure if that was a one time search or if a bot is continuously assigned to it. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 10:50, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
You could do the second thing with AWB indeed, using the regexes \[http:\/\/runescape\.wikia\.com\/wiki\/([^ \]]+) ([^\]]+)\] to [[$1|$2]] (turning url links to this wiki in wikilinks), then ((?<=\[\[[^\]]).)*_ to $1  (changing all underscores in links into spaces), then \[\[([^\|]+)\|(\1)\]\] to [[$2]] (turning all wikilinks that have twice the same in it into plain wikilinks ([[cake|cake]] would become [[cake]]). For the last regex, make sure it is not case sensitive.
Just put all those regexes below each other in AWB, and it should work fine. I can't do it myself for now, as I don't have access to AWB, but if anyone else wants to do it, feel free to use these regexes for that. If you want to do the same for links to wikipedia, use \[http:\/\/en\.wikipedia\.org\/wiki\/([^ \]]+) ([^\]]+)\] to [[wikipedia:$1|$2]], and put that before the "underscore to spaces in links" regex I put above. Interface Images Edit

So recently the interface tab images were updated for the re-sizeable/full screen mode. However, the fixed screen mode still uses the old images, and this is not mentioned on the Interface page. In order to continue using the old image in my userspace, I uploaded copies to an image host. I need help figuring out how to display them and at the same time have them link to a wiki page. I don't know if its appropriate to link to them here, but they are below. ~J22f~TGC 00:38, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

ParseHiscoreData Update Edit

Regarding Template:ParseHiscoreData, is there a way to add a condition to the template so that when the user data value is -1 (meaning the player is not ranked) that the template will display: "Not Ranked" instead of showing a blank? ~J22f~TGC 03:51, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

If you are talking about the table you use to display it on your userpage, then it already does say Not Ranked. I'm not sure if you changed anything or not, but that is what is currently says. Hunter cape (t) Sentra246Blue h'ween mask 14:15, December 1, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I manually have it display the text for those cells otherwise if I used the parse template, the cells don't even appear at all. They don't even just show as empty. I suppose it isn't a big deal because I can change it manually, but that defeats the whole purpose of the parse template extracting the information for me. ~J22f~TGC 09:08, December 3, 2011 (UTC)
Made an altered version in My Sandbox that I think should work ok. Only tried it out on one of your pages so far though, although assuming -1 always means not ranked shouldn't be any problems with it. --Henneyj3.png 05:48, December 4, 2011 (UTC)
This works perfect for my purposes. I have copied the code that I need. Thanks for your help! Would it be worth adding this to the actual template? Or would this mess up how others use the template? ~J22f~TGC 22:42, December 5, 2011 (UTC)
It seems Template:Parse user stats relies on the current form. --Henneyj3.png 23:34, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

Adding link to toolbar Edit

I'm trying to add the link http://www.runescape.wikia.com/index.php?title=RuneScape:Chat/Bans&action=edit&section=new&preload=User:Smithing/B-JQ to my toolbar in my personal .js page. If anyone can help me fix it (it's at the bottom), it would be appreciated. Smithing (talk | contribs) 23:43, December 15, 2011 (UTC)

if ( wgNamespaceNumber !=undefined && !window.ToolbarLinksLoads ) {
        addOnloadHook( addToolbarLinkss );
}

var ToolbarLinksLoads = true;

function addToolbarLinkss () {
    $('<li id="BFC-J/Q"><a href="/index.php?title=RuneScape:Chat/Bans&action=edit&section=new&preload=User:Smithing/B-JQ">BFC-J/Q</a></li>').insertAfter('ul.tools > li:first-child');
}
Replace the bottom of your script with that. Note that you need at least one link on there already from the Wikia Customize bit for this to work seeing as you're using one of my first attempts at getting links to work on the toolbar. Ryan PM 02:23, December 23, 2011 (UTC)

Flash Powder Factory rewards added to herblore calculatorsEdit

These rewards could have a massive impact on the herblore calculators, adding a couple of extra columns to the pages, because you could have the calculations for standard potion making, for potion making with Scroll of Cleansing, with Flash Powder Rewards, or with both. Since I'm new to the wiki, I wasn't exactly sure where to post this or how to implement it. Just for those of you who might not be aware, the full rewards from Flash Powder Factory will give you experience equal to cleaning a herb when you make the unfinished potion, and 3 out of the 5 pieces of the set gives you a 10% chance to make a 4-dose potion instead of a 3-dose potion. GEWM page appears to be very broken Edit

The page Exchange:Rune dagger (p) seems to be extremely broken. Could someone help me figure out what's wrong with it? Michagogo 13:23, February 29, 2012 (UTC)

Never mind -- I think I fixed it be removing an extra { and }.

Every other exchange page has tripple brackets, so I doubt that can be the problem. I don't see what the problem is though. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 19:51, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, you need the triple braces. Otherwise stuff like "{{:Exchange:Rune dagger (p)|View=price}}" and "{{:Exchange:Rune dagger (p)|View=icon}}" wouldn't display as a price and an icon. The error was probably the comma. I put the braces back. --Saftzie (talk) 20:10, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, or not. The comma shouldn't make a difference. Oh, well. --Saftzie (talk) 20:14, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Well, whatever it was, it's working now. Michagogo 12:13, March 4, 2012 (UTC)

I'm really bad at using an Orb of oculus, that's why I put it on the User help page. I'm trying to do a few of the other images (ex. "player chopping down" ones), but some of the other images I can't do. Edit: Some of them I got confused and didn't need updates; however, they could use a bit of cleanup (ex, one of the images on the normal tree is blurry) --Kittypaw9820 22:10, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

Clan colours Edit

Since clans are not supposed to be mentioned on this wiki, should the following images be reverted to neutral colours?

Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 18:58, March 12, 2012 (UTC)

I think it's okay as long as the clan itself isn't named Zamorak staff AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 19:19, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
Theoretically it would be better to have neutral but it's not a priority. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 19:36, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
An interesting point is, I see they were neutral, but someone changed them. So I guess it's as simple as reverting those edits Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 12:42, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

It has a too-lazy-to-do-stuff-ourselves issue. The quality is much improved too. --Henneyj3.png 20:01, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

It is almost impossible to get a picture of every possible flag in the same colours since some of them are really expensive. Unless you can convince multiple clans to temporarily change their colours to neutral ones. The new pictures are higher quality but look very out of place on the page as it is now being much larger and in different colours. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 18:36, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

You could ask the Wiki's clan. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 03:20, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
Assuming it's a superclan able to produce a few hundred thousand resources per week it would still take them over 2 months to do it, simply cause of the 3 upgrades/week limit, and the images probably wouldn't be much better. Higher detail perhaps, but not better. There is no way for us to take a picture of a flag without also having the flagpole for example. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 19:10, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
Then there is nothing we can do. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 16:38, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

Dialogue pagesEdit

Don't really know where would have been best to put this, so I'll try here. There once were dialogue pages, and then there was forum discussion which concluded "Requiescat in pace." However, I see that we still have dialogue pages, some of which have been updated since the supposed removal of dialogue pages. My question is, are these pages supposed to still exist, and if they are... shall we (who love summoning) continue to edit them? Cheers, Penderwyll 20:47, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

I think that was a resolution to delete NPC dialog, not familiar dialog. However, I seem to recall a similar discussion to delete familiar dialog, with the assertion it violated Jagex's copyrights. But, yeah, familiar dialog is still around. --Saftzie (talk) 21:15, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
I thought that they were removed because of copyright, but then later allowed by Jagex, but don't hold me to that, cause I don't remember where I got that from. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 18:11, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
Dialogue pages are allowed, and we have many. There was another thread recently.. somewhere.. that I forgot the name of. Anyway, just wanted to clear it up. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 19:13, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the input thus far, but I'm afraid I remain confused. The discussions I've read so far have ended with one of two conclusions: we keep going until they sue us , or we delete the dialogue as copyright infringement. I recognize that there are some pages of familiar dialogue around (49 pages total, so not very many). I am skeptical that there is some difference between NPC dialogue and familiar dialogue; is this still the proper place for these questions, or should it be put somewhere else like the yew grove? Cheers, Penderwyll 19:57, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

I found the page, hopefully this will clear it up: Forum:Lores Project. EDIT: Also, this is the right place to ask questions. The Yew Grove is for gaining consensus from the community on changes to the wiki. (: Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 20:07, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
I think the principal argument against NPC dialog was that there was a lot of it, and it changed often as Jagex issued updates, so it would be a mess to maintain and wouldn't add much value or interest. That's an argument separate from the concern about copyrights, which was the main argument against familiars and book transcripts, which have less volume, so it's easier to maintain and, in the case of book transcripts, could have value. (I'm not advocating, just reciting.) --Saftzie (talk) 22:13, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the extra information, particularly that forum discussion Cowgurl, I'm now convinced. This topic is now completed Cheers, Penderwyll 17:43, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

Search Edit

I noticed for a few days now that when searching for a page, if the search term matches the name of a page exactly, you no longer automatically go to that page. This is incredibly annoying, but more importantly, it's something you'd expect to find in the settings but I can't find it. Does anyone know why this happened and if and how it can be undone? Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 20:43, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Apparently Wikia decided for its users that "go" should be the same as "search." There's a poll in the Site Notice about it. --Saftzie (talk) 22:36, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

It's been a month or more since I even updated any prices. I've never intentionally vandalized the Grand Exchange or any other page. Wow, they had the discussion on some obscure page and within a few days a couple people decided, with no one opposing, to take action and removed a major, important feature, and closed the discussion. Really stupid. The problem is, the web data that the bot is sourced from already lags behind the real-time data. And now there's the bot's lag. This removes one of the first and main reasons I even came to wikia in the first place: to set up a large table with dozens of items, update all prices, and see at a glance which activity will profit from raw materials, say, for crafting or fletching. All those fancy calculators are garbage now. Smooth move, guys. Warp9pnt9 23:14, May 22, 2012 (UTC)

Skins Edit

I feel like I am taking over the User Help page now but anyway... Today a friend notified me that my userpage did not look the same to him as it does to me because he uses a different skin. I created my userpage back when good ol' Monaco was still available, and when it became unavailable shortly after the release of the ineffecient Oasis skin I switched to Monobook myself. Does anyone know of a way to force my userpage to display in Monobook when others view it? Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 00:36, May 11, 2012 (UTC)

Add "?useskin=monobook" to the end of the url. For example "http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/User:Tharkon?useskin=monobook". Users have to do that in their browsers. Alternatively you could get creative with redirects, I suppose. Better would be to try to make it look sane in whatever skins Wikia makes available. --Saftzie (talk) 03:09, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
You could add that ?useskin=monobook to the link in your signature. You could also change the horizontal amount of userboxes from 4 to 3. That would make it better in wikia skin. JOEYTJE50TALK 09:23, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
3 boxes per row would make the page even longer than it already is. The new Oasis skin simply sucks when it comes to space efficiency, it only uses one third of the window's width for actual content, so I refuse to cater to it. Changing the link in my signature might work, although I noticed wikilinks don't support GET values, so I changed them to regular links. I still don't know why Monaco was removed. For a while the three skins co-existed. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 03:07, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
The width was changed to a fixed width to "make every page the same for different resolutions" so you'd know what every user would see, even with different resolutions. I disagree, but that's what Wikia decided. JOEYTJE50TALK 08:56, May 14, 2012 (UTC)
You could always mess with the page widths on your backgrounds. For example, you could make a fake background something along the lines of <div style="width: 9001px; whatever other styles you want;">bah1</div>. Repeat that with everything else x times and you've got a page that'll display the same regardless of monitor resolution or whatever Wikia, Inc. decides to force upon us. 222 talk 09:01, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

I completely understand the idea behind a fixed width, however, making this width 640px (this is what the content area appears to be in the Oasis skin) is a bit absurd. Nobody is using VGA resolutions anymore, even 3 years ago when I was actively designing websites I was free to assume every viewer had at least XGA (1024x768). The way I designed my userpage now probabably requires SXGA, but we're a few years further and I think every desktop user will have at least that. Laptops are pretty much always widescreen where WXGA is sufficient as well. So even in the Monobook skin I have no worries about people having insufficient screen width. Btw, I tested the div thingy on User:Tharkon/Research, but it doesn't really have the desired effect, although I haven't tried z-index yet. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 21:06, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

Got pretty close now, noticed that the content part of my page is only 1000px, the sidebars are the only thing requiring WXGA or SXGA then. The Live chat and Recent activity boxes from the Oasis skin are quite stubborn though, but this is certainly an improvement. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 21:30, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

Separate Equipment tables? Edit

I think having separate tables for Dungeoneering items would make them easier to use, at least for casual players like myself. And doing so might allow tables that currently have more than 400 items to be on a single page, possibly? (I haven't counted them.)

Or has this been discussed? (I'd volunteer to create them myself, but I'm suffering through a very slow internet connection at the moment.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.28.5.227 (talk).

Would you like to give an example of what you mean? Zamorak staff AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 17:07, May 21, 2012 (UTC)
For example, Dungeoneering items could be removed from Equipment tables/Weapon and placed into a Dungeoneering equipment tables/Weapon page —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.28.29.212 (talk) on 18:26, 21 May 2012 (UTC).
Oh, so you want the page splitting into several different ones; would Dungeoneering equipment/Melee armour, Dungeoneering equipment/Mage equipment, Dungeoneering equipment/Range equipment and Dungeoneering equipment/Melee weapons be suitable to you? Zamorak staff AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 19:23, May 21, 2012 (UTC)
That sounds great! But I'm not sure that's what I'm requesting. I was hoping that the Dungeoneering items could be removed from all the Equipment tables, and new tables could be created for them. Or maybe the tables are generated with scripts? In which case, I'd retract the request, that would be too much work to change. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.28.29.212 (talk) on 19:55, 21 May 2012 (UTC).
The page is generated dynamically based on [[Category:Weapon slot items]] (which Wikia has apparently made unlinkable as I write this, as with *any* Category, sigh). Removing Duneoneering items from this page would be difficult, I think, but a different page based on different categories should be possible. For example, there could be a page with a table of Dungeoneering daggers, a table of Dungeoneering rapiers, etc. --Saftzie (talk) 21:20, May 21, 2012 (UTC)
Oh dear, it would take days to assign all these items to new categories, forget I asked. I guess what annoys me is that tables are cut off at 400 entries, but I assume that's Wikia's doing? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 145.255.114.99 (talk) on 20:08, 22 May 2012 (UTC).
All dungeoneering weapons are already in a separate category. For example, Argonite dagger is also in Category:Dungeoneering daggers, as are Frostbite dagger and Hailstorm dagger, so there could be a table that listed all daggers. With existing categories it wouldn't be possible to include, for example, Argonite dagger and Zephyrium rapier in the same table. There is also Category:Argonite, but that includes all argonite armor, too. Then there could be a separate table for rapiers, etc. The question is whether it's worth being able to compare daggers to other daggers, but not daggers to rapiers, etc., in a sortable table. For example, comparing an argonite dagger to a zephyrium rapier is probably what you really want to do, but these tables wouldn't do that. --Saftzie (talk) 22:44, May 22, 2012 (UTC)

Need some table help Edit

So I put this table together tonight, in order to better standardize our level up tables and make a stronger distinction between f2p and p2p unlocks. For the most part it seems to have worked alright; I added the table to Smithing/Level up table and Attack/Level up table. However, I also wrote up a table for Defence/Level up table, which I have yet to place in the article because, for some reason, my template is now breaking.

Have a look at this. I can't figure out why the template breaks. My usual method of diagnosing a broken table or page is to remove one section of code at a time until I find the responsible section, then examine it for errors. However, that method is not working here; I've removed every section of the table's code and it still breaks. I even had it with just the very first line ("Wear most bronze armour.") and it was still broken! Bleh. Either there's a problem with our servers or my template is somehow flawed. Someone who is better with wikicode than I am, please take a look and see what you can find. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 10:09, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Template:Cquote2 Edit

I don't like messing with this sort of template, but I think it's to do with the div class at the top. The template renders on top of infoboxes, where as it used to 'see' them and render accordingly. I think it does the same with images. Cåm  10:14, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

I've since discovered it's something to do with chrome not recognising margins. Not sure if this is any help to whoever knows how to fix it. Cåm  23:12, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
It's also changed from being justified or centered or whatever it was before, and has really messed up some pages randomly (User:TyA/Administrator Review). Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 20:02, June 2, 2012 (UTC)

The template appears to be fixed for me. However I keep seeing people remove the template because it's rendering behind infoboxes and such. So idk what the issue is now since it looks fine to me. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 18:26, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

However, the five tutors I listed in the first paragraph on the "Tutor" article have the same names as some of the new tutors pictured. Maybe the discontinued tutors can have (historical) after their names, and we could make seperate pages for the new tutors in Burthorpe. Maybe also make new pages for the Burthorpe tutors that aren't listed in my first paragraph.Defence-icon99 i fail Attack-icon 00:01, June 29, 2012 (UTC)

We already have pages for these guys, for example the Burthorpe Crafting tutor is Jack Oval (see here for the full list). Put in the otheruses template if you want to avoid confusion Ring of kinship Ciphrius Kane Dungeoneering cape (t) 13:18, July 1, 2012 (UTC)

Citations/Footnotes/EndnotesEdit

How to do you add citations/footnotes/endnotes to an article? (by citations/footnotes/endnotes, i mean that little [insert number here] that you click on next to a piece of information that leads you to the end of the page, where it has a link to an official Jagex source. This is used to verify what may be a doubtable piece of information.) I want to to know how to do this, because I want to correct information in a Beta: article, but I want to add the footnote or whatever to add validation to what I am adding to that article.Defence-icon99 i fail Attack-icon 01:57, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

This page explains how to do this. When you want to add a reference to an article, just add <ref>citation details</ref> after the text the citation verifies, and <references/> or {{Reflist}} wherever you want the citation details to appear. For example
Text<ref>citation details</ref>
{{Reflist}}
gives:

Text[1]

  1. ^ citation details

Abusefilter suggestion: RDT dropsEdit

Could we add an entry to the abusefilter that flags edits that might be adding a rare drop table drop to a monster's drop list? IPs do this all the time, and even registered users on occasion, and it's rather annoying to frequently have to undo these edits. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 08:06, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Can someone fix the filter so it only catches items that are actually in the rdt, instead of flagging every single change to the drop table? If that's not possible, I'd like to request that the filter be removed instead. Zamorak staff AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 00:43, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
This needs to be dealt with promptly; any time I attempt to change a page I am repeatedly prevented, and it causes crap like this to happen. MolManRchv 5 01:53, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
It is possible to fix, Ansela. But in the mean time, I've disabled the filter. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 02:05, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
I assume there are no further problems with this filter? JOEYTJE50TALK 14:11, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

Dead link on navigation? Edit

I seem to have found a dead link upon the navigation. Under "Guides" if you click "History" it claims the page does not exist. I believe that this should lead to a page, maybe? --Superburke (talk) 22:22, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

I fixed it, though I don't really understand the problem. O1mWm.pngNex 01:13, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Kalphite Queen/Strategies problem Edit

I went to the Kalphite Queen/Strategies page and it has been gutted from what it used to be. Large, useful sections are completely gone, including but not limited to the solo section. The last most-useful version seems to be the 17:08, July 19, 2012‎ version; see http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Kalphite_Queen/Strategies?action=history. Someone should check things out and maybe revert it if that's the right course. Inelcirc (talk) 19:37, September 8, 2012 (UTC)

CSS Highlighting Issue Edit

On my personal css, I have #22CC00 (which is the default admin highlight color) set to only me. However, one user (User:Clv309) is still that color even though I have her under the section which is colored #003366. The name is typed correctly and everything, so I have no idea what the problem is here. It should highlight her userpage, talk page and contributions #003366, but it's only doing her userpage as #22CC00 like we have it in MediaWiki. It's like it's overriding my css. Any ideas? <.< Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 04:13, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

You have the character "Left-to-Right Mark" (U+200E) in the a[href="/wiki/User:Clv309(Errant character here)"] line of your CSS. Here's a U+200E, it's an invisible character: -->‎<-- Copy the following line to your CSS over the Clv309 declaration to fix it:

Quest numbers Edit

I noticed a few odd things with the numbering of quests.

The List of quest release dates shows 181 quests, and Elder Kiln is listed as #181, which matches the number it has on its own page. However, Within the Light is #156 on its own page and #155 on the list, because the list removed the number from Unstable Foundation. There are many other quests that had their numbers removed, and I think that aside of this causing a lot of trouble changing the pages of all quests that have been release since, it is also incorrect.

A good example is Recipe for Disaster. This was a special quest released as the 100th quest, and the page still says it is the 100th quest even though its number has been changed to #97 because one of the earlier quests had been removed, and two are no longer considered to be quests. In my opinion removing quest number 4 does not turn quest number 5 into 4, it just means that quest number 4 no longer exists in the game.

Either way a lot of quests have been incorrectly numbered. Either the lower level ones if we do change the numbering with each removed quest, or the higher level ones because of the removal of Unstable Foundation and/or Learning the Ropes. Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 23:41, May 10, 2012 (UTC)

Article widening Edit

There are some issues I've noticed since our width has increased. These might just be me, so if anyone has any ideas.. <.<

  • Homepage is messed up, the right rail is below the left instead of side-by-side.
  • The "you have new messages" box is way over to the right, so far that I can barely reach it with my mouse.
  • Having an issue editing. Sometimes when I go to edit or undo, the edit box either completely disappears or is cut in half. Looks like it's a problem with our background randomly deciding to cover up the bottom half of the edit box.

Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 22:51, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

These are all bugs caused by Wikia software. You should report those to Wikia, as they will be able to fix it. The new messages box should be fixed now though, and the main page works fine for me. I don't know about the editing problem. JOEYTJE50TALK 11:04, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Community Messages Edit

Does anyone know how to get rid of those messages that sometimes appear in a yellow banner on top of your userpage. They trigger the "You've got new messages" warning and when you then click Show Recent, there is nothing new. Then you look at the actual talk page and there is some useless messages from community.wikia.com Something like this:

Learn more about Wikia's Official Gaming Communities
[dismiss this message] This message will expire on 00:00, October 13, 2012.

Promissory note XPTHARKONQuill 00:47, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Most of the people on IRC and Special:Chat are annoyed by this as well, but we have found no way to disable these new-message boxes when community messages arrive. Sorry.  a proofreader ▸  01:07, October 11, 2012 (UTC)
This happens because the messages are designed for Oasis, where it's a popup box that stalks you on every page, not a message on your talk page. Since that's not something that exists in monobook, Wikia has to use this method. Since there is no class attached to the new messages box that is specific to the community messages, there is no way to make it work more efficient. JOEYTJE50TALK 11:02, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Who knows, I think we've already checked for evidence on most actual pages. 222 talk 08:34, December 5, 2012 (UTC)
Just ask Wikia. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 03:55, December 9, 2012 (UTC)
Read this As Cåm says, "I've had someone with AWB go through every single page checking for conditional use of it (with no results) and still it refuses to come off the list." There are actually a few like that. File:$1 being an example. File:Starspitirface.png‏ is another. I think there's a third, but I can't find them. Either way, contacting Wiki would be the best. I do wonder if it is linked in a personal .js or maybe .css page. Blaze_fire.png12.png 17:49, December 20, 2012 (UTC)
File:$1 is a side effect of a MediaWiki page, as is pretty much anything with a $ followed by a number across any namespace. Just redirect it to RuneScape:No Page, or something like that, but leave an explanation in a comment <!-- reason -->. We don't all think to check page history for something like that. js pages tend to cause stranger wanted pages, usually with + or - in the title somewhere, and they're rarely very stubborn. File:Happy Birthday.jpg was a particularly stubborn one if memory serves. We deleted and undeleted it several times, checked every page, and it persisted for several months. It was most definitely an issue with Wikia, as are most that claim to have uses, but actually don't. Even conditional uses show up in some way, although not always the correct page. Cåm 10:16, 21 Dec 2012 (UTC)
The annoying thing is that it comes up as a strike-out image. A false positive, as the page says. It annoys me that it can't be removed. Blaze_fire.png12.png 02:32, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

Is there a section to tell people which pages need to be updated? Edit

I can't update them myself because I don't know what the new info is. Can I do that here? If so, it's the inspiration and invigorate auras that need updating. --Izzz (talk) 07:25, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

You could make a list on RS:NU. That is the project page for new updates. It may not be used very much, but if you keep a list there, people will likely get to it soon. JOEYTJE50TALK 08:58, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Ancient bones Edit

There is an item called Ancient bones which is a quest reward and thus has a article (see the link). With the new player-owned ports, there is now another item with the same name. I think the current article should be moved to "Ancient bones (quest)", and give the new item the current name. I think I know how to do this, but I'm worried about page history and the name change would cause some links to be wrong. I'm not so good with fixing that, so I was hoping someone else could do the switch for me. The new page could be filled with almost identical content as other trade goods such as Plate and Lacquer. ~J22f~TGC 06:12, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

I'll move the page and fix up the links. Feel free to make the new page at your leisure (mainly because I can't access ports Frown. Cåm 10:05, 17 Dec 2012 (UTC)

Template:Talkheader Edit

I could use some help with someone good at coding in templates. I asked Thebrains222 to use BrainBot to add this template to the top of all Talk pages. It worked perfectly, except for one consequence I completely overlooked. When the template is used in Talk:Solomon's General Store/Archive 1, it will create a link to Solomon's General Store/Archive 1, which is not a mainspace page. I'm really not too good with coding in general, so is it possible to make it so that if the page the template is used on is an archive subpage, it will link to the mainpage insetad? Blaze_fire.png12.png 17:56, December 20, 2012 (UTC)

Regex to alter datesEdit

Timestamps generated by ~~~~~ seem to have changed format over the years, likely due to changes in MediaWiki version. when RuneScape:Forum Archives was started, I never though to check what the current format was, and as a result now face the problem of the archives not accepting it. The date accepted (and what is now used on pretty much every forum as a result) is 15:06 3 January 2013. The current format is 15:06, January 3, 2013. I'm willing to run my AWB account to change all the dates to the current format and then fix the associated template used for the forum archives, but I suck at anything beyond extremely basic regexes. This would only need to affect the date used as the argument for the date parameter in {{forumheader}}.

Halp plz Cåm 15:11, 9 Jan 2013 (UTC)

Is altering the template not an option? --Henneyj3.png 00:48, January 10, 2013 (UTC)
Altering the template is done, but it will only accept the dates in one of the two formats. The #time parser doesn't work properly with it, so I've had to resort to using #explode to locate the relevant part of the date, #replace to change the month to a number and #switch to pad the day with a 0 if it's one digit. I'm in the process of changing the dates by hand, but there's around 2000 forums to fix the date on. Cåm 00:58, 10 Jan 2013 (UTC)
Joey gave me a regex, all dates altered with User:Cåmdroid. Cåm 13:56, 14 Jan 2013 (UTC)

Extra info needed? Edit

I have added a comment to the page Grey Order, since when I completed the Rune Memories quest I noticed Ellaron made a comment about Ariane being a Grey Wizard. So two questions: Is it okay if I added that comment, and should I create a transcript/upload a picture of the dialogue to the Grey Order or RM quest page?

Also, did I post this question in the right section? I apologize as I am new, and thank you in advance. Edited in sig. Grovann (talk) 03:01, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

I would say it's absolutely ok that you added that. A picture would be unnecessary, as would a full transcript. You've made it clear enough where the information has come from. It might be better adding it in as a direct quote, so that it has more factual strength. e.g. he states that "Ariane is a Grey wizard, clever and curious."
And yes this is the right place for advice. --Henneyj3.png 17:17, February 2, 2013 (UTC)
Okay thank you, then this can be archived or deleted as necessary, I'll redo the quest on another character and find the exact quote. Thank you. Grovann (talk) 20:59, February 2, 2013 (UTC)
