RuneScape:Rollback examples

Rollback examples is a partial list of cases when to use the Rollback feature and when not to.
Assuming that you have read in entirety Help:Revert, here are a few cases of when not to use rollback. A very important point that should always be considered is "Can the edit be a matter of someone experimenting and accidentally hitting "save" because they are unfamiliar with the wiki? Could a finger have slipped or accidentally held down a key altering what they wanted their edit to be?"
The key is to assume good faith whenever possible. Before reverting, think about why the edit may have been made. Perhaps they really thought they were helping and did not realise that the information that they were adding was incorrect. If this is possible then it is best to leave a note on their talk page.
The following is a partial list and lists cases of when NOT to use rollback. Anything that is obvious vandalism can be rollbacked. Hopefully, the examples provided will serve as a guide to you.

[edit] Grand Exchange Market Watch updates
[edit] Price changes
- Price for known item altered from 5000 to 500000
- Price change from 5000 to 4.8k
- Price change from 5000 to 510000 or 490000
- Choice of action: Undo all of these. However, do not leave the generic undo summary; a good edit summary is a simple "typo?", or "style guide" for the second example.
[edit] An IP or user signature added to the date field
- Choice of action: Change that field to the actual date/time. They may have forgotten an extra tilde (~).
[edit] Articles
- The floor numbering system is changed to the non-British style.
- The spelling is changed to the non-British spelling style.
- Information about a monster is added ("OMG so easy to p0wn it") or opinion about something in the game is offered.
- A couple of sentences or a paragraph is removed. (The user might have felt that the sentences were not necessary in the article.) Often information is repeated in an article, and they are simply taking away one of the instances.
- A couple of words are changed/removed/added. For example, they might add "(common)" to a drop, remove the word "rare" or change "always drops bones" to "always drops coins". This might actually be true, so refer it to the talk page if you disagree.
- Choice of action: Undo, but instead of leaving the generic summary, use "Style guide" or "NPOV" for edit summary (except for #4). That is a case where they may have been about to rewrite the paragraph or felt it was inaccurate, and something prevented them from finishing correctly.
[edit] User pages
- Choice of action: Most of the time the changes are made by a user who forgot to sign in. Tell the IP to sign in on their talk page so they do not get reported as a vandal.
