Hi there, my name is Spineweilder and I have been volunteering my time here on the RuneScape Wiki since December 2009. I'm often found in Special:Chat and the in-game Clan Chat when I'm online, and I occasionally help anyone who has a question about the wiki or in-game. I have been contributing in the filespace for almost two years now, and looking back, I've come a long way to where I am today. Having almost 58% of my contributions going to filespace, I am pretty active in that specific field, and I'm pretty experienced in image taking as well.
I put some consideration into requesting sysop rights, and even after being encouraged by several people, I'm not going to just blindly make an RfA. I've thought of how being an admin would benefit not only me, but the rest of the community. I would be able to fulfill certain requests users ask and the requests I usually ask other sysops to do, and it would also give me some experience on how to value people's opinions when determining consensus. I've already done quite some work around here, and I think the community has benefited from that, and being granted sysop rights I believe, would benefit this community further.
I've realized through seeing how other active admins and other users of the community work, is that every one of us treats others as equal, which is something I really love seeing. Some people think that being an admin is just working your way up from a user with no rights, to a user with powerful buttons. Well I think that's not the way it should be, nor is it about showing off that you have a few fancy buttons to make yourself look good. It is a sign showing that you're trustworthy enough to hold those rights - and me, I think I am trustworthy enough to do so.
I, Spineweilder, accept this nomination for adminship. I have read the policies concerning administrators. I realise that this nomination may fail. If I do get community consensus, I promise not to abuse my tools because I realise that this is a serious offence. If the community finds that I have done so, my tools will be revoked, and in extreme cases I could be given a community ban. Signed, SpineTalk 05:27, August 24, 2012 (UTC).
Questions for the nomineeEdit
1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
I would take part in anything I am able to do - determine consensus, delete pages and files, blocking users, etc. However, I am more active in the file namespace, and often find the need to ask another admin to either merge or delete files. I feel that it would be a great advantage if I was able to perform those tasks on my own, and also be able to fulfill those types of requests from other users. Not only that, but I would be able to semi-protect a page or file if the need comes.
2. What are your best contributions to the RuneScape Wiki, and why?
Personally I don't really have any "best" contributions, those would just be the images I upload. I do try my best to create the highest quality images and animations possible. Having a large percentage of my edits going into the filespace, it's clear I have made some prolific contributions.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I do not often get into conflicts with other users, but when that does happen, a majority of the time it's an issue that's file related. I usually attempt to resolve conflicts by speaking in a polite and mature manner. I remember arguing with Battleben in-game with an issue some time ago about not applying transparencies and I got a little bit aggressive about the issue. I talked to Cook about this issue and I was told that I should assume good faith, and that instead of arguing about it, I should guide him how to apply a proper transparency. I also had an issue with Fswe1 a while back, where he uploaded over an image with the exact same angle but twice as large. Joey and I talked to him about it and we talked it out in a mature manner. A while back ago I had an argument with ElfAnurin about how my default character's appearance was in many animations I created, making myself seem like Tarikochi. I proposed that we talk this out privately and the result was that I change my in-game appearance every now and then. I think through these experiences I have become more mature and more experienced at resolving conflicts, and I firmly believe that's one of the fundamentals of being an admin.
Additional questions (asked by the community if necessary)Edit
- Should this request pass, will you be accepting a) IRC operator b) Clan Chat Administrator or
c) Chat Moderator?Ronan Talk 20:24, August 25, 2012 (UTC)
- You already get the chatmoderator right with becoming an admin, it's on Special:ListGroupRights, so ignore that question. Hair 20:28, August 25, 2012 (UTC)
Discussion EditSupport - Files, files and more files! That gives you a sense of how much work goes into making a file, and the role of images to add to an article's encyclopedic value. Being a sysop also places you into the centre of decisions regarding deleting files, and I don't know whether you would toss your pride aside if one of the images you uploaded ended up speedily deleted or RfD'd. I also don't know how you'd handle pages. Given how you've handled your (few) conflicts in the past, I see no issue there. You do upload a lot, and I trust that you wouldn't abuse the tools you'd be granted because you recognise the worth of what you, and the other editors, do. I also have no reason to believe that you would be uncivil towards people, having seen you in the Clan Chat, and you have the uncanny ability to round people up to complete a project on the wiki quickly. Support - I believe that Spineweilder would make an excellent sysop. This will allow less hang time on requests that he would have otherwise made into instant action that other administrators just don't know how to handle or won't. I'll trust that Spineweilder also knows his way around Featured Images when needed, as I surely don't, so that decision time and wonderful templates are applied as needed (seeing as he knows his way around the files on the wiki). Conflicts will always occur no matter what you do and it's a fact of life. In the way that Spineweilder has handled such matters previously, I see no issue to take upon here. A well written self nomination is always a good thing. Ryan PM 06:48, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support - Not knowing the user before this (gah inactivity), I've needed to actually look through their contributions to make an informed decision. I was impressed. The candidate has a strong history of meaningful and intelligent comments, using a respective tone of voice and remaining objective in discussions. The file work is obviously great, and provide him with a need for the sysop tools. As usual, I also greatly respect the fact that this is a self nomination. Great job, and have fun being a slave of the wiki :-) ajr 12:06, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support - I couldn't think of any reason Spine would use these tools incorrectly. Everything above basically covers it too :). Hair 12:27, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support - This is long overdue, there's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't have these tools, his edits are always of a great standard, and as per most people, the addition of admin tools will allow him to make his edits faster on the wiki. Good luck my fellow carrier of spinal columns!16:09, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support - Spine is not only absolutely amazing in the image-taking branch, but he is also very responsible when needed to be and would make a great sysop. I think he has all the right qualities to become an admin, and would use the tools correctly and not misuse them at all. For this I see no reason to oppose. Best of luck Spien. <^><318:45, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support and Question - It's very obvious that your main use of tools will be maintenance; however, from what I understand: you are Chinese (if you're not, sorry and I feel dumb). This puts you on at times when there are sometimes zero sysops around. So would you be willing to devote just a small fraction of your time to anti-vandalism? And all I ask is a very small fraction, as while there are few anti-vandals on at that time, there are also very few vandals. MolMan 20:22, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
- Although China is my nationality, I no longer reside there. Dedicating a fraction of my time to anti-vandalism is something I most likely am able to do. -- SpineTalk 23:46, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Spine will make a good use of the administrator tools. He's a very level headed guy and is often working in the image department. He'll definitely help benefit the wiki. Urbancowgurl777 (talk) 23:57, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Spine is an excellent person and contributor, he will be a very competent and honourable admin, I'm sure of it! Good luck Spine!20:48, August 25, 2012 (UTC)
Support - I've seen this guy all over the wiki, he spoils us with the amazing images that he takes and takes great care of the articles when performing maintenance, he is very deserving of these tools and would be very responsible when using them :D! S T Y G 02:41, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
Strong support - I think you're the very most trustworthy of any non-sysop at this time, and you can really use the tools especially with your file maintenance. I think you'd be a great admin, and I hope you pass this request. I've got absolutely nothing negative to say about you. Good luck :D JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 21:21, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Good to see we're not requiring prospective sysops to do everything all the time, although it would be good if you learned a little bit more about stuff outside the file namespace, if only because people expect admins to be somewhat knowledgeable in most areas. Don't let this detract from the support, though; you're a great editor and I don't see any downside to this. ʞooɔ 00:49, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
