Hey friends. It's been a little while since there's been an RfA that I've seen, so I hope I'm doing this right! I'd like to request sysop powers on the wiki in order to help maintain it and make sure that its the best it can possibly be. I often find myself wanting to help out in more ways than I currently can, such as by deleting defunct pages and media. I feel like the majority of the people on the wiki know of me - or at least I hope! Hopefully, I've made a positive impression on you all over the few years that I've been editing on the wiki. I always try and put across new ideas and ways to improve the quality of life of the wiki, such as recent forum threads Forum:MTGA, Forum:Competition Style guide, and Forum:Self nominating for the Wikian. I am adequate with using MediaWiki and the many features within it, so that is a plus. Finally, gaining the ability to stop vandalism in its tracks through being able to block users will prove useful - but my biggest reason for this RfA is being able to perform maintenance tasks that involve deletion or protection independently. Questions for the nominee

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
I plan to improve the quality of life of the wiki by improving the content of articles through templates such as navboxes, infoboxes and more. I'll do this by deleting duplicate or similar templates, like we had for "Safe activity", "Safe dnd" and more, and merging them into one or cleaning them up so that they are useful and helpful for readers and Wikians alike.

I'm going to add to this as it doesn't actually cover all bases of what I'd plan to do administratively. I'm aware that talking about cleaning up templates is something that non-sysop editors can do, ignoring not being able to delete. If I'm honest, my role in being an administrator would be a simple one. I'll use every tool and ability at my disposal to make the wiki a place that is the best for information on RuneScape, and the best community of editors. As I discuss in an answer to a later question from another user down below, I engage in discussions a lot. I think a key thing to take a way from that is that I'll have no difficulty in determining consensus in response to a discussion and ending discussions when a consensus has been reached. At the minute I see Liquid determining consensus for most of our discussions on the wiki, and I feel like it'd be helpful, and just generally nice, to have someone else who is willing to do that on a regular basis.

In addition, vandals pop up at any given time and I have spotted them and challenged them, as seen in recent talk messages. Sometimes they are disruptive even further, and as a non-sysop there's nothing more I can do than rollback or undo changes. I don't think there's a time where disruptive edits remain on the wiki for a long duration, however the longer these edits stick around the more our view as a trustworthy source for RuneScape is damaged in my opinion. And if they are persistent, it may in some cases take a while before an admin can deal with it if I spot it first. We need to act fast on these things, and I think an "extra pair of hands" will most definitely help that.

Finally, there are times where I find myself lacking the privilege to edit MediaWiki pages. There aren't often a lot of times that these pages needed to be edited, but sometimes they might, even to make small changes. Sometimes I'd like to be able to edit the navigation immediately after a new update so that players can find exactly what they need when we get an influx of them that day. More recently, Salix and I played around with the new header to try and make it look it at least better than the default one that was imposed on us. I had to use Salix as a sort of middle-man for testing changes including various images, so while a relatively small issue, I'd love to be able to do this if necessary and show some of my more creative abilities.

All in all to summarise I think the best thing to say is that you'd find me doing pretty much everything an admin can do to help make the wiki better. 2. What have been your most helpful contributions to the RuneScape Wiki, and why?
I think this is a trivial question. I don't believe that one of a person's edits on the wiki can be "most helpful", we're all equal. As long as we're all making a contribution, nothing too big or too small should be ignored. This is the whole reason we're trying to encourage more active editors to join and get involved in the editing process. If I had to pick anything though, I'd narrow it down to recent updates. I'm pretty prominent when there is a new update, and things like Menaphos and Golden Path Challenge were no exception. The Golden Path Challenge article was something that I maintained heavily and made sure new information was added to it minutes after it had been found by a player.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
On the RuneScape Wiki, I don't think I've been in many conflicts. If I have, they were resolved very quickly and no grudges were held. I respect and appreciate everyone that edits here. I think there may have been a time that I had a disagreement with 5-x, but again this was resolved. If I get into a conflict with someone, I make sure that it doesn't turn into an argument and instead remains as a discussion. If things become heated, I'd remove myself from the situation and let it die down. If I'm in the wrong I'll apologise, there's nothing worse than being in the wrong but the person refuses to admit it.

I don't use IRC... I'll happily take a rank on Discord though.

5. Should this request be successful, do you wish to claim CC Admin rank at this time? If so, please state your current display name.
I don't wish to have a clan chat rank. The guys running the clan are doing a fine job of their own :)

Additional questions (asked by the community if necessary)

• Do you expect that you'll be able to maintain your current level of activity in the future?

Yes. I plan to remain as active as I currently am daily for the foreseeable future. There have been times where I've stopped playing the game in the past and still continued to edit, so that's not a factor either. Sometimes I can take a break of about a month or so, but I always come back and get stuck straight back in!

• What maintenance tasks would you like to be to be involved in (apart from sorting out duplicate templates)? Are there many duplicate templates that need to be addressed?

Well as it stands there are a lot of different maintenance tasks that can be performed. I've always been involved heavily in improving the wiki's quality of life through keeping things maintained, it will just add to my ability to be able to perform more advanced changes to pages where necessary. And yes, following on from Forum:MTGA I discovered that there are a fair bit of templates that could do with some kind of TLC and improvement. Even just taking a glance at that category now, there's things like discontinued content that can easily be merged and cleaned up - we don't need multiple templates for the same thing.

• How do you think the wiki could be improved in future?

I think the best way of the wiki being improved is a commitment from its editors to improve it. There is always something to be done, as I mentioned with the maintenance tasks above. There's always articles that can be touched up and improved. What I'd most like to see is the reduction in how many articles are currently obsolete, as they serve outdated information to the players that use the wiki, whereas we really should be ensuring that these articles are as up-to-date as possible.

I find myself creating a lot of discussions on the Yew Grove. This is usually a great thing and discussions within the community are important, but sometimes as shown with Forum:MTGA, some discussions might not even need to be had. • With respect to both Forum:MTGA and in general, do you see any problems with discussing multiple topics in the same thread? User:Cqm/Signature

I feel like having multiple discussions in the same thread is okay as long as they are relevant to each other. If for example the contents of Forum:Dissecting pets and Forum:Header changes were one thread, it'd be pretty messy and not really viable - they're completely unrelated. Cook made an excellent go of merging multiple topics into one thread with Forum:Reevaluating item granularity, which worked out extremely well and set the standard for future discussions. I do however think if multiple topics are covered in the same thread then the thread should be split into appropriate sections covering each topic. Support - Jayden has become a really valuable editor in his time here and is very active in updating the wiki following game updates. He has also got involved in the general maintenance and project work that goes on to help keep the wiki up to standard and does a good job in representing us on Reddit posts about the wiki. He is knowledgeable about a lot of our policies and standards for editing. I think that Jayden has a good understanding of when and how administrators’ tools should be used and would be able to use them beneficially in areas he is already active in (maintenance, speedy deletion and counter vandalism) as well as for his own projects, like cleaning up templates.

My only concerns about Jayden’s ability to be an administrator are his periods of inactivity and some previous conflicts that he’s had. Jayden started editing again at the beginning of this year after nearly 9 months’ worth of inactivity. I do think that administrators should be actively editing the wiki so this is a concern for me; however the 6 months of consistently high activity he has had since reassure me that he is committed to continuing to help out in future. As Jayden mentions he has had previous conflict with 5-x about how to categorise perks. Another time he appeared to get fairly defensive when asked not to make AWB edits on his main account. Apart from these two occasions, which both happened some time ago now, Jayden has been able to discuss disagreements calmly with other users to come to a conclusion. I feel that Jayden is generally very positive when interacting with other users; particularly when reverting edits from new users, he often leaves a talk page message explaining why which I feel is a great trait for administrators (and everyone else) to have. Just to respond to the point about the conflict with 5-x (thanks for linking the talk page by the way, I couldn't remember what the conflict was about, just that I had one with him) - I think what happened there was that several editors including me were getting riled because of edit conflicts and potential breaches of RS:NPOV, RS:3RR, and RS:SOW. To be honest, as you said, this was a while ago now. I think if a similar situation arose now then it would be handled differently as I pointed out in the OP.
