For over a year now, Hair has been supporting our wiki with a wide array of edits, ranging from basic maintanence tasks to helping teach users how to create code for the benefit of the wiki. He's even supplied us with a successful bot. Hair has a good head on his shoulders and fully understands our policies and standards, evidenced through his contributions and when he deals with vandals. He is always very calm and never loses his head full of hair in a situation. He's always the go-to guy for me when I need a third party's advice. Because of his hard work, intelligence and lack of hot-headedness, he is a wonderful candidate for adminship. (: User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 03:21, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

I, Hairr, accept this nomination for adminship. I have read the policies concerning administrators. I realise that this nomination may fail. If I do get community consensus, I promise not to abuse my tools because I realise that this is a serious offence. If the community finds that I have done so, my tools will be revoked, and in extreme cases I could be given a community ban. Signed, Hair 03:52, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Questions for the nominee[]

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
Anything that needs to be done. As of now, I enjoy helping out all around. Though my strong suits tend to be more with maintenance and counter-vandalism which is where I will generally find myself. This usually comes about when it comes to requesting merges and deletions of images or pages. I also believe I'd take part in closing community discussions as they usually can stay open for a while without being touched (regarding RfDs, RfMs, etc.).

2. What have been your most helpful contributions to the RuneScape Wiki, and why?
I believe every edit can be deemed helpful. I believe that my contributions to the file namespace (cleaning things up, moving images to accordance with RS:IMG) can be seen as more helpful than my other edits though.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Any past conflicts of mine, I wouldn't label stressful. It seems I usually am calm during the situation which most always results correctly, this of which won't change as time goes on.

4. Should this request be successful, which of the following, if any, do you wish to be added to your account: Username highlight; IRC operator; Clan Chat administrator?

  • Yes, I would like a highlight. I feel as if it makes finding an admin easier for newer users, which typically don't know where to look to find one.
  • No, I have no reason to be given IRC operator tools.
  • No, I don't take part in the wiki's Clan Chat.

Additional questions (asked by the community if necessary)[]

What makes you significant from other active users in the community? What imperfections do you see yourself doing on the wiki that you would like to address, and hopefully, improve on? -- Recent uploads SpineTalkGuest book 02:11, December 5, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure I could be could be addressed as more significant than someone else on the wiki, and I don't want to be seen like that. I'd rather be seen the same as anyone else. Though, this probably isn't true. I could most likely be seen with higher significance as I have higher technical skills than the average user (python, R, etc.), thus allowing me to do different tasks than another user. This is what I really enjoy doing too, which then takes up most of my time on the wiki. I'd rather become more well rounded with all aspects on the wiki, rather than focusing on one specific area. It's something that I could easily work on to help out more. Hair 02:40, December 5, 2012 (UTC)

What do you think of the community's current standards, policies, and status? -- Plasma (Talk) 00:07, December 9, 2012 (UTC)

I think the wiki is set on its policies, I think that we've learned from past mistakes and thus improved them because of it. Though, some things of course could do with more work as some controversial topics will continue to be discussed, yet nothing will be changed because of it. Some things such as "Edit spam" do go through a forum, yet nothing can be seen in our policies because of it. I also believe that we as editors have high standards from our users and pages, and there is nothing wrong with that. I think that it can be seen incorrectly by some though, as some of our edits are reverted solely for incorrect placement. This would only be done by the user applying the change to the page though, as let's say.. if Cook Me Plox added content that would be seen as suspicious, there is a less chance of something being done, rather than if it were added by 127.0.0.1. Just a certain bias/standard that I see in all users when it comes to edits, which I hope changes as time goes on. Regarding the current status of our wiki, this is what can be looked at more as a community. As RuneScape has just gone through the "great EoC", many players complain to both want to quit/take a break from the game, which hurts us in the end. Whether or not this actually happens, I don't know. Even so, we don't want to lose our editors. I don't think this is a major concern though, as past updates show players don't leave even with a controversial update. Wikia is more of a different story. I personally think Wikia provides us with many benefits with the support and storage, but is starting to hurt us with all the ads they throw at us. Ads don't help us, especially since it can cover up most all of our content. Many discussions have occurred whether or not we should switch hosts but nonetheless have resulted in "No." Whether or not Wikia can continue pleasing our needs and pleasing our visitors will decide the total outcome of our wiki. Until it shows a change in decline of page views, nothing to be worried about, just something that we always need to keep in mind. So all in all, there are things we can, and should, work on that can be looked at as times goes on. Hair 01:30, December 9, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Hairr will most likely make a fine sysop. Though I view it quite negative that he is making use of said hilite. User:TyA/sig 03:55, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Slight Oppose - you have shown you are calm, but durin your rfcm, you showed you do not handle conflict well, and you do not help settle arguements in the chat, therefore in my opinion, I do not think it is completely necessary to give you the tools of adminship.Ice Rush12Zaros symbolTalkHiscores 05:05, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

If you are referring to his first RfCM, that was over a year ago. I can definitely tell you that Hair has changed drastically. If you are referring to the second RfCM, and his successful one, then I really have no idea what you are talking about. As far as I can see, there wasn't really that much conflict in his RfCM, maybe one post, but in my opinion Hair dealt with that rather calmly. With your point that he does not help settle arguments in Chat, I think that this is irrelevant. This is an RfA, not an RfCM. Haidro (talk) 05:15, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Mind changed - SupportAfter reading the rfr I referred to, I realized that it was posted a year ago, and my judgement was based mostly on the rfr, not his actions when I was around him. Hairr is always the first person to welcome me into the chat, and rarely has outbursts anymore. A good choice for an Admin.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ice Rush12 (talk).

I'm guessing you mean RfCM not RfR? I've also striken your previous declaration to avoid confusion. I am interested to know what outbursts, rare they may be, you are referring to?

I don't know if I can support Hairr, cuz I never edit here, but he's definitely an awesome guy and he'll do well as an admin. Plus, he switched to my code editor :D. --Kangaroopowah (Talk) 23:53, December 9, 2012 (UTC)

I'm unaware of any edit restrictions for RfA, but I would paraphrase, as closely as I remember, a comment on one of the early consensus discussion threads I've come across:
As consensus is based on the community's approval, or disapproval, of a subject, someone outside the community cannot cause any real impact on it. If someone randomly came along and said something out of line with what the community perceives, it is likely to be ignored. Similarly if someone were to create a number of socks to create the illusion of a number of users supporting something, but none were recognised in the community, again, they are likely to be ignored.
Whether the above support would be recognised is up to the closing bureaucrat, but I don't think it hurts to express your opinion on a matter regardless of their standing in the community.
