RuneScape:Mapbuilding

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Shortcut:
RS:MAP

Welcome to the Mapbuilding project page. This is where people can:

 • Nominate articles they believe would benefit from a map of some type. For example, most if not all articles on Dungeons would benefit with a map of the dungeon.
 • Nominate articles that have a map for an improved or updated map. For example, some older maps in articles do not show features added to the game, like summoning obelisks, since the maps were made. Also, articles with maps taken directly from RuneScape's Game Guide can be improved with better maps.
 • Adopt articles they are willing to build maps for.

Here's an overview of the procedure to follow for adopting an article and making a map for it:

 1. Adopt an article listed in Articles nominated for maps below.
 2. List the adoption in Articles being mapped below.
 3. Make the map, per Making maps below.
 4. Add it to the article and finish up per Finishing up below.
 5. Optionally, note the articles that have new maps in Maps recently added to articles below.

Note: To add timestamps in the listings, use ~~~~~ instead of just typing in the date. Example: 14:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC).

Help Needed! Some locations are only accessible during quests. Once the quest is over, you can't get back there. This can make mapping these areas very difficult. The need-map listings below try to note these special locations. If you haven't done the quest yet, please consider adopting these articles when you are ready to do the quest. Thanks!

[edit] Making maps

Maps can be made by stitching together in-game minimap images or by other methods, so long as they provide a comprehensive detail of what's what and where's where! See RuneScape:Maps for mapmaking guidelines.

Map images must also meet the RuneScape:Copyrights requirement. (This means, for example, that copyright material cannot used from other RuneScape fan sites without their permission. Images derived from the RuneScape game itself can be used if they meet the fair use guidelines.)

[edit] Articles nominated for maps

To nominate an article for a map, put the name of the article, reason for the nomination, and date below. Also, please add mapnom in the article itself that you have nominated.

Example:

 • Article Name - Needs map. Nominated ~~~~~.

Some locations can only be accessed during a quest. If you know about such restrictions when you nominate an article, please add a note about this.

Example:

 • Article Name - Needs map. Can only be accessed during the Quest Article Name quest. Nominated ~~~~~.

[edit] Needs updated, improved, or non-Game Guide map

Please keep this list in alphabetical order!

 • God Wars Dungeon - Needs map(s) not from Game Guide, clearer map for main area, and individual maps of the four God chambers. Nominated 13:34, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

 • Taverley Dungeon - Needs non-Game Guide map that is "good-enough looking" to not be replaced by a game-guide map version (as was what previously happened, see the map files history) Suggest using the current version in collaboration with the prior non-game guide version to generate a version that has clean lines sans jpeg artifacts. 00:49, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Articles being mapped

An article that someone has decided to adopt (make a map for) should have its entry modified with strike through text (just like this), to indicate that it has been adopted. The article should also be noted below, with the article name, the user who is building a map for it, and the date they started the project.

Example:

 • Article Name - adopted by ~~~~.
NOTE: If an article's adopter has not completed the map within two weeks from adoption, the adopter should release the article so someone else with more time can take on the project. To release an article, remove the strike through text from the "Articles nominated for maps" section and delete the article from this "Articles being mapped" section.
If an entire month has passed with an adopted article not receiving its map, anyone can release the article from adoption. Releasers do not have to adopt articles they release, although they may if they wish.

[edit] Mapping in progress

Please keep this list in alphabetical order.

[edit] Finishing up

Once the map has been completed, edit the article to incorporate the map into it. Remove the mapnom from the article itself when the map is added.

Then, delete the entry from Articles nominated for maps and from Articles being mapped on this page.

Optional: You can use Maps recently added to articles on this page to list that the articles receiving new maps. This alerts other map builders to check out your new work. Note the article, with the article name, the date the map was added, and any notes of interest about the map.

Example:

 • Article Name - Map added on ~~~~~. Add any notes of interest here.

[edit] Maps recently added to articles

This list should be in reverse chronological order (newest entries added at the top), so that people can see the new items first.

If the list gets long, remove older entries from the list.
