Nex: Angel of Death is a powerful general of Zaros fought in a new encounter distinct from regular Nex. She is located in the Ancient Prison beyond the hidden door in the south wall of the bank/lobby area.
Upon entering the instance and teleporting down into the arena, there is a Mysterious Energy in the center which begins the kill and prevents others from joining the fight. DO NOT begin the fight prematurely, so that everyone has a chance to participate. Additionally, in the final phase of the fight, DO NOT drop the elemental pulse bombs (described below) toward the centre of the arena. Anyone who does this will not be allowed into future kills.
If it's your first time to Nex: Angel of Death or you're not very familiar with the fight, listening to calls is extremely important. As such, most teams try to get together on a voice communication program like Discord. The wiki has its own Discord server, which we very highly recommend using. We will likely use the channel #events and potentially others if there are multiple teams/instances running during the event. You don't need a microphone to speak, it's more important to listen when learning the boss. For those who aren't present on Discord, there will be in-game calls of course.
In this encounter, Nex attacks with melee up close and magic from a distance, often at the same time. Because of this, at this event, we will only take participants using magic or ranged. Additionally, this is end-game PvM content and requires high combat stats and good equipment. All participants will be coming as DPS, and there will be designated base tanks for the event.
- Bring runes for the best spell you can use. On the standard spellbook, Air Surge is typical. If on the Zaros spellbook, you can use Shadow Barrage for the accuracy debuff on your target, or you can use Blood Barrage if you are worried about food.
- If you are using a 2h weapon, you can bring a Guthix staff and use the weapon's special attack, Claws of Guthix to apply a stackable defence debuff.
- Keep Torment on at all times if you have 95 Prayer. If you are on regular prayers, use Augury.
- Remember to bring the ammo required by your weapon.
- Keep Anguish on at all times if you have 95 Prayer. If you are on regular prayers, use Rigour.
- Bring an Enhanced Excalibur for handy healing.
- If you have it, you can use your Desert pantheon aura and commune to Icthlarin to receive 2 extra sign of life effects. This is possible even with another aura active.
- Remember to get a bonfire boost before the kill.
- Bring a shield to use Reflect and Resonance if you get caught in an empty quadrant during Nex's Power from elements special attack, described below.
- Stat-boosting potions should absolutely be used - Supreme overloads are the best, though you can use Holy overloads or regular Overloads if you don't have them. If you don't have overloads, bring the best extreme or super ranging/magic potion you have available. One potion should be enough for each kill.
- If bringing Saradomin brews, remember to bring 1 dose of Super restore for every 3 doses of brew.
- Bring enough prayer for the whole fight. If using the level 95 Prayers, Torment for magic and Anguish for ranged, bring 12 doses of prayer potion. If you do not have 95 Prayer then you can bring 8 doses.
- Bring antipoison for her last phase, in which you can get hit with poison damage for up to 1300.
- Ring of vigour switching when using ultimate abilities enhances DPS and is an important asset for high level PvM.
- Adrenaline potions or Replenishment potions are very useful when used in conjunction with ring of vigour switching after using an ultimate ability in order to rapidly use threshold abilities while in your Sunshine or Death's Swiftness.
- Bring a shield in case of emergencies.
- It is recommended to bring a beast of burden such as Pack yak, Spirit pack pig, or War tortoise instead of a Nihil familiar especially as a learner.
- Set quick prayers to Protect Item, Deflect Magic, and Anguish/Torment (or Rigour/Augury).
- Turn auto-retaliate off.
Upon entering God Wars Dungeon, run directly south to the Frozen Door and use a charged Frozen key to enter. Walk down the stairs and through the Zarosian faction room. Wearing a Shard of Zaros prevents aggression from the faction members, who can stun players. To enter the Nex bank/lobby area, wear a set of Ancient ceremonial robes or get 40 Zarosian KC. Bank at the NPC Ashuelot Reis and ready your gear. Make sure to bank your Frozen Key since it will be lost on death. After the kill, you will be teleported back to the bank area.
Click on the Hidden Door and join the instance of the designated host. On the overlooking balcony, teleport down into the arena using the teleport pillar. In the center of the arena there is a Mysterious Energy that starts the kill. DO NOT touch the Mysterious Energy. Only the host will begin the kill. Before the fight begins, participants should distribute themselves evenly among the four quadrants of the arena.
In this phase Nex uses two normal attacks, melee and magic. Her melee damage is heavy and AOE, so if you're not close to her, only the base should be receiving melee damage. Her magic damage attacks everyone, including the base. She will alternate these attacks randomly. Beyond this, she has three special attacks. For all special attacks and phase changes, Nex will yell a command indicating the attack and it will be repeated in the chatbox.
Power from the elementsEdit
Nex teleports to the centre and faces one quadrant. After a few seconds ice walls appear and divide the quadrants. Run or Surge out of that quadrant into another one if you can. Standing on the ice walls will hit for over 3000 damage as well.
In each of the other 3 quadrants, 1 blood reaver will spawn with 50,000 lifepoints and approach Nex. Use Combust/Fragmentation Shot and stuns to kill the reavers before they reach Nex and heal her for the remainder of her health.
At the same time, after the ice walls fall, any players in the empty quadrant Nex was facing will receive 3 hits of 3500 typeless, blockable damage. Put on your shield and use Reflect to reduce the hits to 1750 and use Resonance on one hit to mitigate damage entirely.
If a reaver touched Nex with some health left, she will heal for that amount and say "Taste the power of a true blood sacrifice." Then she deals damage equal to one-half that of the reaver's remaining health divided among the players in the kill.
Some attacks after the quadrant special attack, she will perform a special attack that sends a red orb at each player's current location. The orbs deal heavy damage if stood upon. There will be 3 orbs per player - walking one square away for each orb and not standing on other players' orbs is enough to avoid damage. After some time, these orbs do not deal damage when stood upon and will disappear.
Phase 1 ends when Nex reaches 2,100,000 health.
This phase begins with Nex summoning four amalgamations of the Ancient Magicks; Smoke, Shadow, Blood, and Ice. They appear toward the inner corners of each quadrant, and standing near them when they appear will deal 1500-1350 damage. Each amalgamation has 40,000 lifepoints and an orange/blue bar timer.
Destroy the amalgamations to prevent the praesul minions (Fumus, Umbra, Cruor, Glacies) from spawning at full health. If all destroyed, they will have 150k health each instead of 300k. For this event, kill the minions in this order: Umbra (SE), Glacies (NE), Cruor (NW), Fumus (SW). The minions will run after their target and use abilities. If you are targeted by a minion, use Anticipate to prevent stuns and Freedom to remove current stuns.
Important: While the minions are out, Nex will continue to use her quadrant/reaver and shadow orb special attacks. Be wary of these, and prioritise killing reavers before the minions!
Phase 2 ends when the minions are defeated and Nex's health reaches 1,800,000.
Nex will no longer perform her quadrant/reaver and red orb special attacks, and instead 3 new specials are introduced. She will continue to use her regular melee/magic attacks throughout this phase.
Similar to Vindicta's dragonfire wall attack, Nex will target two players. A visible popup will appear on their screens, warning that Nex begins to draw smoke from the [east/north] towards you! Some seconds later, two walls of smoke will appear and run through the targeted players - one running east/west and the other running north/south. Targeted players should run to the corners until the smoke appears, helping other participants avoid the 1000-2000 damage per tick. The smoke will not appear if you run to a wall, but just make sure you don't let it land in the DPS piles.
A message saying "Nex casts a thick black smoke towards the centre of the arena" appears in the chatbox, and a slow-moving black cloud will travel from Nex and outward in a random direction. Similar to Vorago's Vitalis orbs, DPS should run toward where it will land. At that location, a black hole will appear with a pillar of Unstable Smoke at its centre. Consuming the Unstable Smoke deals 14,000 damage split among the players standing in the black hole and resets defensive abilities. Several DPS should stand there and one person should consume it, allowing several players to take reduced damage. If it is not consumed, it will explode and hit all players for heavy damage.
Nex says "You... Stay... DOWN!" and targets a random number of players. Targeted players' screen will have an icy overlay effect and receive a popup message saying "Ice begins to form around your feet, locking you in place." After a few seconds, ice appears in a 5x5 area around them, hitting nearby players for 1600-5000 damage and stunning them. The targeted players are locked in an icicle that has 100k health. Using Anticipate before the icicle spawns will cause it to have 50k health instead. Freedom allows the trapped player to help attack their own icicle, as the team destroys it to free them. If it is not destroyed in time, the player will be released and take a 2000 (3000 if near another player) bleed for 5 hits.
Phase 3 ends when Nex's health reaches 600,000.
At 600,000 health, Nex is invulnerable and the team must destroy the pillars in the corners. Additionally, a blue ring appears in the centre of the arena. She stops using her melee attacks at this time, and will only use magic for the remainder of the fight. New special attacks are introduced in this phase, and she stops using the specials from phase 3. Note, however, that one last special attack from phase 3 (icicle/smoke walls/shadow ring) can be leftover to activate at the very beginning of phase 4.
The pillars can only be attacked and destroyed in the order that the associated praesul minions were defeated in phase 2. For this event, therefore, the pillar kill order will be Shadow (SE), Ice (NE), Blood (NW), Smoke (SW) unless the minions were accidentally killed in a different order during the fight.
Elements instant killEdit
This is the most important mechanic in the last phase! From the start of this phase until the end of the kill, Nex will target a single random player with this attack. They will receive a popup message saying "Nex has marked you to take the full force of the elements." An orange/blue bar timer will also appear above their heads. The marked player must run inside the blue circle in the middle of the arena before the timer runs out, and stay there until it finishes, otherwise they will be insta-killed. Once the timer is over, the attack continues with the pulse-follow up, below.
The targeted player immediately receives another orange/blue bar timer and a popup message saying "The shield blocks most of the damage, but you feel the elements boiling up inside." At the end of this second timer, a 5x5 pulse bomb will be dropped at the player's current location, and persist until the end of the fight. This deals 3000 rapid damage to all standing in it. Therefore, after the first timer ends in the centre of the arena, run to the middle of the southern wall until the second timer runs out and the pulse drops away from the DPS pile which is currently destroying the pillars. For all future pulse bombs, drop them to parts of the arena where there are depleted pillars or otherwise will not get in anyone's way. Most importantly, DO NOT DROP THE PULSE BOMBS IN THE CENTRE NEAR THE BLUE RING. Anyone doing so will not be allowed back for future kills.
Shadows (Shadow crystal)Edit
The shadow crystal allows Nex to place shadows under some players, similar to regular Nex's shadow phase. There are several shadows that will re-appear under players, so keep moving to avoid taking heavy 4000-5000 damage. There will be no notification. Destroying the shadow pillar eliminates this effect.
Freeze (Ice crystal)Edit
Players' screens will have an icy overlay like that from Nex's icicle attack in phase 3. There will be a popup message saying "You begin to feel the effects of the ice pillar..." and the overlay will grow more opaque over time. Use Freedom to clear the freeze effect not too early, but before the screen turns too frozen. If the freeze is not prevented by Freedom, the player's defensives will be reset and they will be bled for 2000 damage 5 times. Destroying the ice crystal eliminates this effect.
Heal (Blood crystal)Edit
The blood crystal allows Nex to heal over time. Destroying the blood pillar eliminates this effect.
Virus (Smoke crystal)Edit
Players receive a popup message saying "Nex infects you with a powerful virus!" This reduces stats and prayer points, so remember to re-overload and keep prayer high. Destroying the smoke pillar eliminates this effect.
Once all the pillars are destroyed, Nex is attackable again. She loses all of her special attacks associated with the pillars and only uses the elements instant kill attacks and regular magic attacks. Continue to run the pulse bombs to the far walls away from the DPS, and reduce Nex's health to 0.
Once Nex dies, any drops will be placed in the centre of the arena and a teleport pillar will appear to take players back to the bank outside. Congratulations!
There is currently a bug where if a player is eligible for a drop and died, the drop will still appear as if the player was there. If this happens, one player should stay in the instance and wait until the drops appear before leaving.
