Rotten tomatoes are items obtained by placing 15 tomatoes in a compost bin and letting them rot, or by purchasing them from one of several places.
Locations where rotten tomatoes can be purchased include:
- Duel Arena's Shop of Distaste in Al Kharid or from Fadli
- A pillory
- The crate in western Seers' Village
- The crate in southern Varrock.
- The crate north of the bank in Yanille.
- The crates at Botany Bay via the Trial Announcer.

Players can throw rotten tomatoes at other players in the Duel Arena, at players stuck in a pillory, or at bots on trial within Botany Bay. Do this by simply using the tomato on the other player.
If a player tries to throw a rotten tomato at another player anywhere outside the areas listed above, a line of text will appear in the chat window saying You can't throw the tomato at that person now.
Rotten tomatoes cannot be eaten. They are used in the quests Recipe for Disaster and Mourning's Ends Part II.

Trivia
Edit
- After the Duel Arena became available for free players, rotten tomatoes were also turned into a non-members item.
- Even though you can't throw rotten tomatoes at other players outside the Duel Arena, or at pillories, you will still turn towards the player in the same way you would if you used a spell on them outside of a player-versus-player area.
