A Red Salamander is a creature that can be caught using the Hunter skill. You can catch it by using a small fishing net on a young tree. This means that you must have a rope and a fishing net in your inventory. When caught, it becomes a Red salamander weapon similar to a flamethrower which can use all three styles of combat.

Equipment: 4 Small Fishing Nets and 4 Ropes. Head to the Red Salamander hunter area, located West of the spirit tree near the Battlefield of Khazard. To get there, use the Lunar Magic spell Ourania Teleport, travel using the spirit trees, or teleport to Castle Wars Arena and walk North. Go to the western spot, (west of altar), located at the edge of the road where the graveyard is, and use the trees there. If you cannot afford super energy pots, or do not wish to run, use the three trees that are really close together. If you do have super energies, bring around 8, keep your weight at a minimum, wear spotted/spottier cape, and boots of lightness. Any camouflage equipment is desirable, although not necessary.
There are numerous Monks of Zamorak milling about in the trapping area. To avoid wasting time with accidental attacks, a hunter can equip a salamander while making sure not to carry food for it, therefore keeping the salamander harmless.
