Ranarr seeds can be obtained as a monster drop, by pickpocketing Master Farmers, from Managing Miscellania if your workers are assigned to Farming, looting nature implings, cleaning out a bird's nest, as a gamble reward from the Barbarian Assault minigame or bought from Vinesweeper for 4000 points each.
Planting ranarr seeds is very profitable, therefore players are advised to make sure that the herb does not die. Supercompost (or Fertile Soil spell) is strongly recommended, as this is the best way of preventing your herbs from getting disease, as it is not possible to water the patch, or ask a farmer to tend the herbs. A ranarr seed will take 80 minutes to grow into a grimy ranarr.
The following table shows the profit yield, assuming all the herbs and seeds are purchased/sold at the Grand Exchange, for the guide price. If the herb dies, you will lose -1,019 coins.
