Featured images are images that add significantly to articles, either by illustrating article content particularly well, or being eye-catching to the point where users will want to read its accompanying article. Taking the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words," the images featured on the Main Page should illustrate a Wiki article in such a way as to add significantly to that article, according to the featured image criteria.
Add {{FIMG Candidate}} to the image you wish to be featured.
If you are nominating a previously nominated image, be sure to add any links to previous nominations. A historical list of nominations is stored in the archives.
If you are nominating an image to be replaced, make sure you provide a picture of the original image.
An image may be nominated by any user, including the uploader, per discussion. This also applies to nominations for replacement or delisting.
Nominators are not allowed to advertise their nominations, solicit votes, or trade nominations with each other, as this would be gaming the system.
Describe the image. The description should describe the image itself, and not anything else. The description should not be biased, and avoid superlatives, such as "most", "greatest", "best", etc.
Be creative. Descriptions beginning with "A picture of..." and "A view of..." are not appropriate and should be avoided.
Avoid redundancy. Do not repeat the title of the image in the description. Try reading the title and the description together to see how it sounds. For example, Kharidian Desert, a shimmering oasis sounds better than Kharidian Desert, a shimmering oasis in the Kharidian Desert.
Do not change the image while it is being voted on. - Changing an image by uploading a new version of the image, or by changing to a different file of a similar subject could void all votes made before the change, and may lead to confusion.
This is a display of beautiful work - Do not attempt to nominate your images to inflate your own ego. Featured images are featured because the picture itself is exceptional, not the uploader. As a general rule, nominate images that truly amaze you, not ones that only look good and avoid nominating a large quantum of works you've uploaded yourself.
As RuneScape's graphics get updated, featured images can become obsolete. When this occurs, the obsolete image should be nominated for either replacement or delisting, if it cannot be replaced.
If there is no nomination for replacement within two weeks or the nomination fails, the image will be delisted. The only exception to this is if the image is of such historical significance that it adds to the relevant mainspace page, in which case the image may remain featured. Arguments for this should be discussed on the nomination page.
