The Portable deposit box was a Fate cards reward from the Sizzling Summer promotional event. This item allowed you to set up a Deposit box almost anywhere in RuneScape, which would last for 1 hour. The deposit box could be used by any player once set up. All unused portable deposit boxes from the original promotion were removed from the game on 1 January 2013 with the update Happy New Year!.
During the September 2014, 2015 and 2017 Balthazar's Big Raffle event, portable deposit boxes could be won by entering the raffles on Fridays and Thursdays, respectively.
Use
When setting up the portable deposit box, you had to decide whether to restrict the deposit box for your use only, or to allow anyone access to it. This, as well as the location of the deposit box could not be changed during the duration of the deposit box.
If the player logged out or was disconnected, the deposit box stayed in place. However the deposit box was world-specific once placed; the player must have re-entered the same game world in order to continue using it.
The Portable deposit box was the only Choose your fate reward that worked in PvP situations such as the Wilderness or minigames which involve PvP combat.
It allowed you to deposit a full inventory quickly making it superior to the pack yak for depositing. Remote banking was particularly useful for fast resource gathering skills, allowing you to significantly increase experience gained per hour.
