Penguin

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

This article is about penguins generally. For the Summoning pet, see Penguin (Summoning). For the Hunter creature, see Penguin (Hunter).

The Penguin is an NPC and one of Andrew Gower's favourite animals[1], revered in a manner similar to Bob the Jagex Cat. Penguins are innocuous and weak creatures found in the Ardougne Zoo and north of Miscellania, but two intelligent penguins can be found wearing a sheep costume in Lumbridge.

The Penguin quest series heavily involve penguins. Apparently, penguins are smarter than they appear. Even Juna warns a player not to underestimate them. Penguins also have some roles in the D&D Penguin Hide and Seek.

Main article: Penguin quest series
  • Penguins are first introduced in the quest Cold War, where the player must invade the Penguins' base, and find out more of their evil plans. Along the way, the player meets a rather deranged zookeeper named Larry who is obsessed with penguins.
  • The quest series is then continued in Hunt for Red Raktuber, where the player must investigate a recent mysterious activity, later shown to involve the penguins and their plans. Their plans include the penguins combining forces with the "sea", which may refer to Mother Mallum, as Captain Marlin of the Red Raktuber has already been mind-controlled by a sea slug. This quest also requires the quest Sea Slug to be completed, giving another reason why the series may be integrated with the Sea Slug quest series.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Motherland is in reference to the Soviet Union. The USSR was referred to as "mother Russia" and "the motherland". Meanwhile, the quest name "Cold War" is an obvious reference to the actual Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States.
  • During the miniquest Shadow Sword, after player mention to Sin Seer that they need help "joining a bad guys group", she will guess the penguins to be among a few other groups of notoriously bad people.
  • Every year, on the last week of October (during the Hallowe'en event), the penguins are disguised as a pumpkin (instead of their usual disguises) to celebrate Hallowe'en.
