The following guide gives advice on training the Ranged skill from levels 1-99, for members. The ranged combat skill is highly useful as it gives the player the ability to attack from long ranges with projectiles. This can allow a player to avoid all damage in combat.

  +
Defence can also be trained using ranged weaponry by setting combat experience gain to Defence, or Defence and Ranged, in combat settings within the Powers menu.

|This is among the most expensive equipment, but is also the very best non-degradable. Karil's armour may be used instead for same stats. Karil's armor degrades, but you get an added set effect. Armadyl boots can be an alternative to Glaiven boots. Glaiven boots also requires 75 Ranged and 85 Defence, so it would take a while to get to there.

Shields
Needs update with new off-hand weapons from E.O.C. update

When deciding to use either dual wielding or a bow/shieldbow, it is important to consider if you are using momentum or revolution. The latter, however, is preferred over the former. Abilities don't consume any ammunition, and degrading bows like the crystal bow won't degrade. As a result, it could be beneficial to use abilities, especially if dual wielding, since dual weapons have a higher cost per second compared to two handed weapons. Regenerate, Rejuvinate and Guthix's Blessing can all greatly reduce, or if one is willing to take a hit in experience per hour, remove the need for food. That said, food can temporarily boost your experience rates at the start.

Any of these shields are highly recommended especially if using thrown items such as darts and knives, or when using a crossbow. Note that if you have not done the required quests for these items you can use an anti-dragonfire shield , chaotic kiteshield or a Dragonfire shield (ranged)/Armadyl buckler for the defence bonuses. You can also use shields like spirit shields, which give no negative attack bonuses, for the same effect. There are also a wide range of Dragonhide shields to choose from.

A highly recommended shield to use is the void deflector, with a dragonhide body.

If possible, enlightened versions of these books are suggested.

Weapons
  +
The following table shows you what the best advised equipment is to train Ranged fast.

Note If using an optimal ability rotation, ammunition usage can be all but eliminated. Training with Momentum will obviously cost much more than using abilities, since ammunition is used with each auto-attack, however it would require less attention. Using Ava's device past level 30 will collect the ammunition automatically, as well as providing a good range bonus in cape slot.

Chinchompa
  +
Grey chinchompa, Red chinchompa, and Mechanised chinchompa are multi-target ranged weapons which hit up to nine enemies in a 3x3 area. These require 45, 55, and 75 Ranged, respectively.
  +
  +
Sustain
  +
Ideal training with chinchompa is to be hitting nine targets at all times. This in turn means that you will be attacked by at least nine enemies, and need to be able to counteract the damage. Protection prayers, deflect curses, or soul split can largely mitigate this damage, but food may still be necessary. Additionally, a single click emergency teleport may prove useful.
  +
  +
Hit chance
  +
The overall hit chance of a weapon is largely dependent on its level, so chinchompa have a maximum accuracy equal to that of other level 75 items. Accuracy boosting effects such as void or auras should be considered to counteract misses if fighting something with reasonably high defences.
  +
  +
Dwarf multicannon
  +
:Note that the gold cannon and royale cannon take 60 and 90 ammo per load, making them more efficient than a standard cannon at 30 ammo per load.
  +
  +
Locations
  +
* Slayer tasks (e.g. Dagannoths, Kalphite soldiers, and Black demons)
  +
* Multi-combat zones with safe spots
  +
* NOTE: While the Black demons are not particularly cost-effective for range training (as compared to the green dragons, which produce an exorbitant profit), many of their locations - particularly in the Taverley Dungeon - go quite unnoticed by most players as potentially some of the quickest experience given in the game. Taverley, for example, produces a fire rate almost double that typically found in the Green dragons area near Clan Wars and has the added bonus of not requiring the anti-dragon shield, antifire potions, or super antifire potions. However, the Black demons will hit rapidly, heavily, and accurately when you must leave your safe spot, so lower levels must be wary to either activate Protect from Magic or to ensure their health and armour are strong enough to defend them very briefly to reload the cannon. When cannoning Black demons, you may wish to bring prayer potions so you can continue to use Protect from Magic during extended trips.
  +
  +
Restrictions
  +
The cannon cannot be set up in the following locations:
  +
* Ancient Cavern
  +
* God Wars Dungeon (God chambers)
  +
* King Black Dragon Lair (the King Black Dragon will destroy it)
  +
* Kalphite Queen's room in the Kalphite Hive (the Kalphite Queen will destroy it)
  +
* TzHaar city and minigames (Fight Caves, Fight Pits)
  +
* Slayer Tower
  +
* Fremennik Slayer Dungeon
  +
* Minigames
  +
* Chaos Tunnels
  +
* Pest Control
  +
* Bandos's throne room
  +
* Kuradal's Dungeon
  +
* Tarn's lair
  +
* Grotworm Lair
  +
  +
Inventory
  +
* Cannon base, Cannon stand, Cannon barrels, Cannon furnace and Cannonballs.
  +
* Food, depending on where you are using the cannon.
  +
* Prayer potions, if prayer is needed in the location.
  +
* Ranging potions if you want to boost your Ranged level. Note that the cannon's accuracy is affected by your Ranged level and the attack style you are using. Also Ranged level will only increase cannon accuracy if you wield a ranged weapon. Please note that the cannon's accuracy will not be affected as heavily as your own ranged stats.
  +
  +
Shields
  +
Shield use is generally reserved for bosses or other high level encounters, and is relatively rare for general training. The main exception to this is dragonfire protection. Shields of note are listed below.

Abilities
  +
Abilites are the main source of damage when using full manual or revolution, but are not used at all in legacy mode. Training ranged will consist mostly of using Ranged abilities, with some use of Defence and Constitution ones. For recommended action bars, see a list of optimal setups for basic abilies or use the calculator to see how other options compare.
  +
  +
Some abilities have requirements beyond range level to unlock. The important ranged ones are detailed below.

Monsters
Monsters
Save for a few exceptions, you can gain ranged experience from any monster you attack. However, the most effective monsters to kill for experience are those with a weakness to ranged attacks. This is even more pronounced when matching a monster's specific type of ranged weakness to arrows, bolts, or thrown weapons. For complete lists of monsters weak to each type, see the following pages:

As with any style of combat, you may choose to train it predominantly through Slayer. This has several benefits, such as the damage bonus from a full slayer helmet, less crowded areas, and unique monsters to kill. In addition, you may choose to sculpt your block and prefer lists to allow you more tasks that are ideal for ranged training.

Many Monsters are also Slayer Monsters, if they are within your level, it is recommended to train on them for the extra Slayer experience

Balthazar Beauregard's Big Top Bonanza
  +
This gives Ranged experience as well as Magic and Agility, but can only be attended weekly. Depending on your levels, the experience varies but it could be high. Going to this circus is recommended and high ranged attack bonus and ranged-boosting prayers will be an advantage. High magic attack bonus and magic boosting prayers is an advantage for the Magic too. It only takes a few minutes to complete.

  +
Black demons and black salamanders
Chinchompa
  +
With a full set of Void equipment and black salamanders it is possible to kill black demons very quickly (5–20 seconds), which results in a decent amount of experience per hour. Black demons are also a good source of charms and are found in Taverley and Brimhaven dungeons as well as in the Chaos Tunnels.
Locations
Red Chinchompa and Grey Chinchompa are multitarget ranged weapons which hit up to 9 enemies in an area of 3x3. They became more effective after the EOC as the majority of combat areas are now multicombat. However due to the nerf of the protection prayers to only 50% protection from the original 100% many of the original methods such as skeletal monkeys are now ineffective as players would die very quickly.

Inventory
+
Waterfiends
  +
Waterfiends are a very good source of ranged training. With Elite void or Pernix equipment and a high level ranged weapon (handcannon, attuned crystal bow, black salamander, and royal crossbow are all great choices) over 150 kills per hour (around 150,000-400,000 experience per hour) is possible. They are also an excellent source of charms and drop semi-valuable loot, making them a choice spot for higher level players to train.
Because in multicombat areas more than one enemy can attack you, it is highly recommended you use protection prayers for the 50% protection. Your inventory should consist of mainly prayer potions and food, as well as other potions such as super restore and/or ranging potion. Also, an emergency teleport could be taken in case you run into trouble.

Experience gain
+
AFK waterfiends
  +
With sufficient levels and equipment, waterfiends at Ghorrock can be AFK'd for very easy Ranged XP. This method, though requiring high levels is much cheaper than other AFK alternatives such as using Chinchompas in the abyss. You will need at least 92 Prayer for Soul Split, and 96 Herblore for Overloads is highly recommended. The use of a Geyser titan is also helpful though not explicitly required. With at least tier 70 armour and tier 80 weapons you can expect 450,000 experience per hour if concentrating and 350,000 experience per hour totally afk, as well as 100+ crimson charms.
Red chinchompas provide some of the fastest ranged experience within the game. The ranged experience you receive depends upon your armour, your ranged level, and whether or not you are using ranging potions. An average setup with full void will provide you with the following estimated experience per hour at ape atoll. However since the evolution of combat reduced the effectiveness of protection prayers 'chinning' has became less effective as a training method.

  +
What you will need:
Prior to the EoC the skeletal monkeys provided the following experience rates:

  +
* 20 Prayer potions (Soul Split should be all the healing you need)
  +
* 4 Overloads
  +
* 2 Geyser titan pouchs (Beasts of Burden may be used as an alternative, and should be filled entirely with prayer potions)
  +
* 2 Shark (in case of emergency)

  +
You will need to find an area in the tunnel appropriate for the level you are and the equipment you are using, the first room is host to only 4 waterfiends, while the second room is host to 6. These monsters will become tolerant after 10 minutes of fighting, this can easily be reset by running to the next room or climbing up and then back down the ladder located in the first room.
*85 = 300-340k XP each hour

*86 = 340-345k XP each hour

*87 = 350-355k XP each hour

*88 = 360-365k XP each hour

*89 = 370-375k XP each hour

*90 = 380-385k XP each hour

*91 = 390-395k XP each hour

*92 = 395-405k XP each hour

*93 = 410-415k XP each hour

*94 = 420-425k XP each hour

*95 = 430-435k XP each hour

*96 = 440-445k XP each hour

*97 = 450-455k XP each hour

*98 = 460-465k XP each hour

*99 = 470-475k XP each hour

  +
Abyssal training
Although this method at Soul Wars is a fair bit slower than the Ape Atoll Dungeon or Mummies alternatives, it seems that not only the experience per Red Chinchompa ratio is higher, but you can also choose to spend the Zeal on ranged experience which makes this less costly and still gives amongst the greatest range experience possible in game.

  +
Training Ranged, Melee and Magic skills in the Abyss is perhaps the best AFK exp/hour in the entire game. The south-west and south-east corners spawn 15+ creatures that are aggressive and will attack the player upon respawn. There is a world-hopping safespot in the far south-west corner behind a tendril. The creatures become non-aggressive after 10 minutes. To reset the aggression timer simply run away and come back.

702,054.8 XP/h measurements: Ranged red chinchompa (power armour, blood amulet, grand ranging potion, Armadyl off-hand crossbow recommended): 702,054.8 XP/hour afk. Use Revolution++ with the following bar: Corruption Shot, Death's Swiftness, Bombardment, Deadshot, Fragmentation Shot, Needle Strike, Snipe, Binding Shot (Ricochet doesn't work well with chinchompas).
*Skeletons in Ape Atoll Dungeon (Monkey Madness required to a certain extent)

*Mummies in the Chaos Tunnels

*Other Players in Soul Wars

*PoH Combat Ring

*NOTE: If going to Ape Atoll dungeon, you will notice the lack of skeletons in the beginning. In a matter of minutes after killing, more will spawn. Also, go to a populated world, which will give you faster spawns. In addition to that, one must also prevent the skeletons from turning to a pile of burning bones. They will turn to burning bones after being alive for too long. This may be prevented by chinning with other players, in packs of 2-3. Although it may seem as more people means less experience, it doesn't. The fewer bones that burn make it far easier to have 20+ skeletons at once to throw chins at. Having more skeletons WILL get you more exp per chin and overall. Also, having more people means that at least one person is likely to draw aggression from the skeletons, ensuring that they do not wander the room.

*NOTE: Although Mummies in the Chaos Tunnels aren't as fast as Skeletons in Ape Atoll Dungeon, -150,000 experience per hour less- it saves you money while you are in there considering the Rune Scimitars, Rune Sq. Shields, and Ancient Staves make up the amount of money you spend on Prayer Potions, or even the cost of the Red Chinchompas if you are lucky. (does not cover both costs at the same time).

*NOTE: Using Red Chinchompas at Soul Wars can be very difficult as for it to be effective you will need a few requirements. Prior to EoC the experience rate has been reduced immensely. First of all, a busy world. Having a Soul Wars friends chat to help take over both graveyards helps as the only real effective spot is outside the opponent's spawn area (near their avatar) as if they have a grave, less will spawn and there will be more high levels attacking you. Standing next to where your opponent comes out of the barrier and throwing Chinchompas on oncoming victims is effective, however when they run you will run after them which is not desired. The best thing to do is to stand right where everyone comes out of the barrier - so most people won't see you - and chin a few people until someone decides to stand next to you and attack you. From there having <u>Auto Retaliate ON</u> is highly recommended as most people won't run. This method does involve taking a lot of damage so do always stock up on bandages and try to wear the best armour you can. For this reason Armadyl is recommended over Void. P.S: If sometimes you find you throw a Chinchompa at someone, it explodes but causes no damage symbol to appear, be happy. It simply means that others are soaking the damage for them. This makes it easier to target just one person. *Remember to always use the Attack Style <u>"Short Fuse"</u> for optimal results. It is also beneficial to use the soul split prayer from the Ancient Curses prayer book to maximize survival time to increase experience gain.

*NOTE: To gain optimal experience throwing Chinchompas in a Combat Ring, gather around twenty people and have them stand in any one spot in the ring. Now, all you must do is simply throw the Chinchompas at the people. This method can rack in around 200,000 experience per hour. Useful for those who do not have enough cash to buy Prayer Potions.

*NOTE: Using the "Knock-Out " aura can increase your experience gain in groups.

Tips:
Cannon use guide
  +
* Corruption Shot is critical for range training. It increases XP/hour by 28%.

  +
* Blood amulet of fury or Bunyip is enough to heal for a complete AFK experience.
:Note that the gold cannon and royale cannon take 60 and 90 ammo per load, making them more efficient than a standard cannon at 30 ammo per load.

  +
* Bring a charming imp. Have him eat the abyssal, gold, green charms for easy Summoning exp. The monsters drop ludicrous amounts of charms due to the sheer volume of kills per hour.

Locations
*Slayer tasks (e.g. Dagannoths, Kalphite soldiers, and Black Demons)

*Multi-combat zones with safe spots

*NOTE: While the Black Demons are NOT particularly cost-effective for range training (as compared to the green dragons, which produce an exorbitant profit), many of their locations -particularly in the Taverley Dungeon- go quite unnoticed by most players as potentially some of the quickest experience given in the game. Taverley, for example, produces a fire rate almost double that typically found in the Green Dragons area near Clan Wars and has the added bonus of not requiring the Anti-Dragon Shield, antifire potions, or super antifire potions. However, the Black Demons WILL hit rapidly, heavily, and accurately when you must leave your safe spot, so lower levels must be wary to either activate Protect from Melee or to ensure their health and armour are strong enough to defend them very briefly to reload the cannon. When cannoning Black Demons, you may wish to bring prayer potions so you can continue to use Protect from Melee during extended trips.

Restrictions
The cannon cannot be set up in the following locations:

*Ancient Cavern

*God Wars Dungeon (God chambers)

*King Black Dragon Lair (the King Black Dragon will destroy it)

*Kalphite Queen's room in the Kalphite Hive (the Kalphite Queen will destroy it)

*Bandos's throne room

*Kuradal's Dungeon

Inventory
*Cannon base, Cannon stand, Cannon barrels, Cannon furnace and Cannonballs.

*Food, depending on where you are using the cannon.

*Prayer potions, if prayer is needed in the location.

*Ranging potions if you want to boost your Range level. Note that the cannon's accuracy is affected by your Range level and the attack style you are using. Also ranging level will only increase cannon accuracy if you wield a ranged weapon. Please note that the cannon's accuracy will not be affected as heavily as your own range stats.

Balthazar Beauregard's Big Top Bonanza
This gives Ranged experience as well as Magic and Agility, but can only be attended weekly. Depending on your levels, the experience varies but it could be high. Going to this circus is recommended and High ranged attack bonus and ranged boosting prayers will be an advantage. High magic attack bonus and magic boosting prayers is an advantage for the Magic too. It only takes a few minutes to complete.

Shattered Worlds
Black Demons and Black Salamanders
  +
Shattered Worlds
After the Evolution of Combat, the black salamanders changed their attack style from magic to ranged. This led to the change of the range of monsters to kill. Monsters using magic, such as the Black Demons, are weak against ranged attacks and make perfect targets for those who wish to train ranged.

  +
At worlds 50+, Shattered Worlds can be a very good source of experience. In general, each world offers better experience per kill than the one before it until the player no longer has enough resources to continue. In addition to experience, shattered worlds awards the player with Shattered anima for rewards like Bladed Dive and slayer masks that are normally only obtainable from Treasure Hunter. It is recommended that players train around worlds 70-80, bringing their own armour and weapons, for the fastest experience rates.

Waterfiends
Completing quests
  +

With the recent updates seen due to the Evolution of Combat, Waterfiends have become a very good source of ranged training. With Elite Void or Pernix equipment and a high level ranged weapon (handcannon, crystal bow, black salamander, royal crossbow, and Karil's Crossbow are all great choices) over 150 kills per hour (around 150,000-200,000 experience per hour) is possible. They are also an excellent source of charms and drop decently valuable loot, making them a choice spot for higher level players to train.

You can help improve this page by editing it.

The following guide gives advice on training the Ranged skill from levels 1-99, for members. The ranged combat skill is highly useful as it gives the player the ability to attack from long ranges with projectiles. This can allow a player to avoid all damage in combat.

Defence can also be trained using ranged weaponry by setting combat experience gain to Defence, or Defence and Ranged, in combat settings within the Powers menu.

Recommended armour

For general training, power armour is preferred over tank armour for the damage bonuses.

Weapons

The following table shows you what the best advised equipment is to train Ranged fast.

Note If using an optimal ability rotation, ammunition usage can be all but eliminated. Training with Momentum will obviously cost much more than using abilities, since ammunition is used with each auto-attack, however it would require less attention. Using Ava's device past level 30 will collect the ammunition automatically, as well as providing a good range bonus in cape slot.

Notes:

 1. ^ Chargebows, unlike other bows, do not use ammunition. Kayle's version has better accuracy and damage than other weapons in this tier.

The following table shows the recommended bolts cost, as crossbows are recommended past level 36

Level Weapon Ammo 1 Cost Ammo 2 Cost Notes
30 Mithril crossbow +454 accuracy Mithril bolts +288 damage 74 Topaz bolts (e) (lvl 40 req.) +384 damage 60 At the almost the same price, topaz bolts (e) offer an enchantment Down to Earth which reduces the target's Magic level in PvP and offers more damage, although it is more difficult to obtain from the GE.
40 Adamant crossbow +628 accuracy Adamant bolts +384 damage 113 Mithril Bolts +288 damage 74 Though mithril bolts are slightly cheaper, adamant bolts should be preferred, as they have much more damage.
50 Hunters' crossbow, +850 accuracy Kebbit bolts, +480 damage 47 Long kebbit bolts, +480 damage 62 This crossbow is now at par with the Rune crossbow but it can only use Kebbit bolts and Long kebbit bolts, and cannot be used with other off-hand crossbows.
50 Rune crossbow +850 accuracy Broad-tipped bolts (with 55 Slayer) +480 damage 66 Adamant bolts +384 damage 113 Broad-tipped bolts are used for training and general purposes instead because their damage is equivalent to runite bolts, and are cheaper to use.

Chinchompa

Grey chinchompa, Red chinchompa, and Mechanised chinchompa are multi-target ranged weapons which hit up to nine enemies in a 3x3 area. These require 45, 55, and 75 Ranged, respectively.

Sustain

Ideal training with chinchompa is to be hitting nine targets at all times. This in turn means that you will be attacked by at least nine enemies, and need to be able to counteract the damage. Protection prayers, deflect curses, or soul split can largely mitigate this damage, but food may still be necessary. Additionally, a single click emergency teleport may prove useful.

Hit chance

The overall hit chance of a weapon is largely dependent on its level, so chinchompa have a maximum accuracy equal to that of other level 75 items. Accuracy boosting effects such as void or auras should be considered to counteract misses if fighting something with reasonably high defences.

Dwarf multicannon

Note that the gold cannon and royale cannon take 60 and 90 ammo per load, making them more efficient than a standard cannon at 30 ammo per load.

Locations

 • Slayer tasks (e.g. Dagannoths, Kalphite soldiers, and Black demons)
 • Multi-combat zones with safe spots
 • NOTE: While the Black demons are not particularly cost-effective for range training (as compared to the green dragons, which produce an exorbitant profit), many of their locations - particularly in the Taverley Dungeon - go quite unnoticed by most players as potentially some of the quickest experience given in the game.

Restrictions

The cannon cannot be set up in the following locations:

Inventory

 • Cannon base, Cannon stand, Cannon barrels, Cannon furnace and Cannonballs.
 • Food, depending on where you are using the cannon.
 • Prayer potions, if prayer is needed in the location.
 • Ranging potions if you want to boost your Ranged level. Note that the cannon's accuracy is affected by your Ranged level and the attack style you are using. Also Ranged level will only increase cannon accuracy if you wield a ranged weapon. Please note that the cannon's accuracy will not be affected as heavily as your own ranged stats.

Shields

Shield use is generally reserved for bosses or other high level encounters, and is relatively rare for general training. The main exception to this is dragonfire protection. Shields of note are listed below.

Name Requirements Notes
Anti-dragon shield None Drastically reduce dragonfire damage.
Dragonfire deflector 70 Defence Drastically reduce dragonfire damage, with tier 70 defensive stats and a dragon breath ability.
Elysian spirit shield 75 Defence, 75 Prayer, Summer's End Absorbs 30% of incoming damage in exchange for draining 6% of the original hit in prayer points. This is currently the strongest non-degrading Ranged shield available.
Vengeful kiteshield 90 Defence This is currently the highest tier Ranged shield available.

Reprisers

Reprisers act as both an off-hand weapon and a shield at the same time. This provides a substantial boost in defence without giving up dual-wield abilities.

Repriser Levels required
Ranged-icon Defence-icon
Tainted repriser Tainted repriser 70 70
Ancient repriser Ancient repriser 80 80
Kalphite repriser Kalphite repriser 90 90

Abilities

Abilites are the main source of damage when using full manual or revolution, but are not used at all in legacy mode. Training ranged will consist mostly of using Ranged abilities, with some use of Defence and Constitution ones. For recommended action bars, see a list of optimal setups for basic abilies or use the calculator to see how other options compare.

Some abilities have requirements beyond range level to unlock. The important ranged ones are detailed below.

Ablility Requirements Notes
Death's Swiftness 85 Ranged, The World Wakes A powerful damage buff.
Corruption Shot 70 Ranged, Corruption Shot Ability Codex or Mazcab ability codex Either can be obtained directly from raids, or the Mazcab ability codex can be bought from another player.
Mutated Dazing Shot 8 Ranged, 63,000,000 Shattered Worlds anima Unlocks alongside Salt the Wound. This will permanently upgrade Dazing Shot while on a members' world.
Salt the Wound 60 Ranged, 63,000,000 Shattered Worlds anima Unlocks alongside Mutated Dazing Shot.
Shadow Tendrils 75 Ranged, The Dig Site Speak to the archaeological expert at the Exam Centre.
Tuska's Wrath 50 Constitution, 4,000 Anima Islands reward points None
Devotion 1 Defence, 3,500 Anima Islands reward points Can also be obtained as a rare drop from General Graardor, Kree'arra, or aviansie.
Sacrifice 10 Constitution, 3,500 Anima Islands reward points Can also be obtained as a rare drop from General Graardor, Kree'arra, or aviansie.
Onslaught 90 Constitution, Onslaught Ability Codex or Mazcab ability codex Either can be obtained directly from raids, or the Mazcab ability codex can be bought from another player.

Vyrelord/Vyrelady Darkmeyer 98 11,370 680 The Branches of Darkmeyer

Blisterwood stakes

* Void Knight armour with Ranger helm unless on a slayer task, in which case a Full slayer helm or Focus sight would be more recommended. High magic protection equipment such as black dragonhide, royal or armadyl armour to reduce the need of food.
Advantages Disadvantages
 • Players must fletch their own Blisterwood weaponry (stakes or crossbow), as they are untradable.
 • Experience rates can be reduced substantially if even one more person is training in Darkmeyer; as Vyres are aggressive, making auto-retaliate less useful for training.
 • Unless a player has cremated a large number of Vyre corpses, they will not achieve the high hits necessary to earn the best experience rates.
Monster name Location(s) Combat level Life points Experience Requirements Recommendations
Waterfiend Ghorrock, Chaos Tunnels, Ancient Cavern 107 8,000 934.2 The Temple at Senntisten A Charming imp is highly recommended here, as waterfiends frequently drop crimson charms.
Advantages Disadvantages
 • Very good drops, such as noted water orbs and uncut sapphires, and high crimson charm drop rates.
 • Waterfiends' combat levels also allow for very high Clue scroll (hard) drop rates. One such clue can be found easily within an hour.
 • Once the Waterfiends become non-aggressive, they are quite easy to 3-hit with hand cannons for high kill/ammo rates. Players will need very little food once this occurs because of the Waterfiends' tendency to hit 1 on players more often than they either hit or miss.
 • Weak to bolts
 • If player has access to fairy rings, they are very close to a bank at the Ancient Cavern
 • Ghorrock is very far from a bank; this is somewhat offset by the fact that most of their drops are noted.
 • Ghorrock is also very difficult to reach, see Ghorrock to find the best ways.
 • They are very popular for training, and are often crowded.

Advantages Disadvantages
 • Very high experience rates per rotation, with 8,871 combat experience in total per rotation.
 • Excellent drops, such as noted dwarf weed and dwarf weed seeds, which fetch a high price on the GE, along with Armadyl armour and the Armadyl hilt.
 • Can be camped for hours without needing to bank if using a sufficient setup.
 • Very far from a bank, and requires killcount to enter, which can hamper experience rates.
 • Can be crowded if you choose not to create an instance.
 • You can die very easily if you are not paying attention.

Other training methods

Balthazar Beauregard's Big Top Bonanza

This gives Ranged experience as well as Magic and Agility, but can only be attended weekly. Depending on your levels, the experience varies but it could be high. Going to this circus is recommended and high ranged attack bonus and ranged-boosting prayers will be an advantage. High magic attack bonus and magic boosting prayers is an advantage for the Magic too. It only takes a few minutes to complete.

Black demons and black salamanders

With a full set of Void equipment and black salamanders it is possible to kill black demons very quickly (5–20 seconds), which results in a decent amount of experience per hour. Black demons are also a good source of charms and are found in Taverley and Brimhaven dungeons as well as in the Chaos Tunnels.

Waterfiends

Waterfiends are a very good source of ranged training. With Elite void or Pernix equipment and a high level ranged weapon (handcannon, attuned crystal bow, black salamander, and royal crossbow are all great choices) over 150 kills per hour (around 150,000-400,000 experience per hour) is possible. They are also an excellent source of charms and drop semi-valuable loot, making them a choice spot for higher level players to train.

AFK waterfiends

What you will need:

You will need to find an area in the tunnel appropriate for the level you are and the equipment you are using, the first room is host to only 4 waterfiends, while the second room is host to 6. These monsters will become tolerant after 10 minutes of fighting, this can easily be reset by running to the next room or climbing up and then back down the ladder located in the first room.

Abyssal training

Tips:

 • Corruption Shot is critical for range training. It increases XP/hour by 28%.
 • Blood amulet of fury or Bunyip is enough to heal for a complete AFK experience.
 • Bring a charming imp. Have him eat the abyssal, gold, green charms for easy Summoning exp. The monsters drop ludicrous amounts of charms due to the sheer volume of kills per hour.

Shattered Worlds

Main article: Shattered Worlds

At worlds 50+, Shattered Worlds can be a very good source of experience. In general, each world offers better experience per kill than the one before it until the player no longer has enough resources to continue. In addition to experience, shattered worlds awards the player with Shattered anima for rewards like Bladed Dive and slayer masks that are normally only obtainable from Treasure Hunter. It is recommended that players train around worlds 70-80, bringing their own armour and weapons, for the fastest experience rates.

Completing quests

Some quests grant Ranged experience. Refer to the main article for more details.
