The Papaya tree are trees that may be grown with the farming skill. Level 57 farmers may plant a papaya tree seed in a plant pot that has been filled with dirt from any gardening patch. A gardening trowel is needed to plant the seed, then it must be watered. This action is all performed in the inventory or backpack section of the screen. A planted Papaya tree takes 960 minutes (roughly 16 hours, may take longer if needed) to finish growing.

After 15 minutes or less, the planted seed will become a papaya tree sapling and can then be transferred to a Fruit tree patch. The fruit tree patch must be raked clean of weeds. Compost or Supercompost may be added prior to planting, and once planted (using a spade and trowel), the nearby farmer may be paid to watch over your tree. Payment is 10 pineapples and optionally may be noted to save you space. Because of the low price of pineapples, and the high price of papaya tree seeds, it's worth paying the 10 pineapples to protect your papaya trees.

A papaya tree sapling may take fourteen or more hours to mature. An Amulet of nature may be bound to the patch to provide progress on its growth. Once mature, the tree produces six papaya fruits at a time.

Planting the papaya tree sapling gives 72 farming experience. A healthy papaya tree, when checked, provides 6,146.6 farming experience. If the farmer does not watch the tree, then disease may grow on the tree which may be removed using secauters. However, if left alone, the diseased tree will die.

Each papaya fruit, when picked, gives 27 farming experience. Once all 6 papaya fruits have been picked, the tree will slowly produce more fruits until all 6 are available again. Generally, it takes 30 minutes for a papaya to grow back, so about 3 hours are required for all 6 to grow back. However, the papaya fruits may be picked anytime they show on the tree.

Papaya seeds may be obtained from Pawya as well as bird's nests and Jade vine monster drops; papaya fruits are required to trap Pawya.

For the Ardougne Tasks (hard), a papaya tree (or a palm tree if the player chooses to), must be grown and have its fruit picked in the fruit tree patch west of the Tree Gnome Village.

Production costsEdit

The data in this table is based on the Grand Exchange prices of a Papaya tree seed and Papaya fruit, assuming one seed is processed to 6 papaya fruits and a gardener is paid with 10 pineapples to keep the patch disease free.

Material cost Profit/loss Profit/xp
52,652 -32,726 -5.13

Farming all 6 Fruit tree patches will provide you with 38,282 xp, costing 196,356 coins. Despite this, papaya fruit sells for a reasonable sum of money on the Grand Exchange and therefore if the player does a round trip of the 6 fruit tree patches then the profit from picking the fruit would then pay for 1 or 2 (depending on GE prices) new saplings which can then be planted and grown in to more papaya trees.
