To wield obsidian weaponry and armoury, the player must have at least level 60 Attack, Strength, Magic, Ranged or Defence, except the cape, which has no requirements. Information
Edit
To obtain the obsidian armour set, the player must personally smith the components using Obsidian bars, which they must make themselves by smelted using Obsidian shards from the Fight Cauldron Minigame, available after completion of "The Brink of Extinction" quest. The armour can also be made through the Assist System.
The names for all obsidian equipment, except for the Obsidian armour set and capes (obsidian cape and fire cape) are in the TzHaar language, unlike other types of equipment.

Armour
Edit
The Obsidian armour set is a high-level hybrid equipment set that requires level 60 Defence to equip. It is untradable, unalchable, and can only be acquired by smithing Obsidian bars (12 Obsidian shards per bar), requiring a level of Smithing of 80 or above (from level 80 Smithing to create the Obsidian gloves up to level 85 Smithing for the Obsidian platebody to complete the set). The completion of the Brink of Extinction quest is a requirement to access the Fight Cauldron, where Obsidian shards are earned as drops from the creatures slain there.
Obsidian armour works as normal hybrid gear on the surface world, but in the TzHaar city it can heavily reduce all damage taken, including damage from other players (PvP in the Fight Pit). This damage reduction comes from each armour piece, for up to 55% reduction when wearing the entire set and 45% without the kiteshield.
Each armour piece has a 50% chance to degrade with each hit taken in the TzHaar city. This can be decreased to a 20% chance by donating Tokkul at the Fight Cauldron. Those considering to use obsidian armour at the Fight Kiln will find that it can last for 3-4 plays before degrading completely, or even more plays, depending on how fast the Kiln is completed.
The armour used to have level 80 stats (equal to Nex gear), and used to make the wearer take 3x damage outside of TzHaar city, but its stats were lowered to level 60 and the damage multiplier removed when it became a standard hybrid set.

There is no hybrid obsidian helmet, but instead a classed helmet for each combat style. They are the obsidian warrior helm, obsidian ranger helm and obsidian mage helm. A helm increases accuracy against obsidian creatures by 10% in its respective attack style. The helms will also act as a slayer helmet when on a TzHaar task, increasing your damage by 12.5% and your accuracy by 12.5?%.
Obsidian armour is degradable, and will disintegrate when it loses all its charges. The armour can be repaired at any time by using a stack of obsidian shards (not obsidian bars) on the pieces, or by selecting the Repair option on the shards to repair all equipped armour. The repair cost for each item is one shard per 100 charges. The repairs prioritize equipped pieces and the replenished charges are shared across all items; charges are not wasted if an item has less than 100 charges to replenish, because it will use the spare charges to repair another item. Fully charged armour pieces can be stored in an armour case in the costume room of a player-owned house.
