He makes ropes for 15 coins or 4 balls of wool. During The Fremennik Isles quest, Jofridr Mordstatter states that she sells him rope made from yak hair in exchange for wool, as wool is scarce in Neitiznot. Ned will give a "free sample" after the Fremennik Isles to bribe you into keeping his secret. Despite this, in Mega May, it is contradicted with the information that he makes his own rope, as some of his supplies were stolen.
Ned makes two types of rope; the average type, or wool rope, which he sells to adventurers, and a stronger, more durable rope which he sells to sailors.
Ned is featured in the Dragon Slayerquest, being the only one willing to sail to to Crandor Isle to slay Elvarg with a map and the ship the Lady Lumbridge. Ned, along with the player, will be stranded as the player's ship is shipwrecked while landing on Crandor island. The cabin boy dies before the Lady Lumbridge crashes by the hands of Elvarg. Ned makes his way back to Draynor Village as soon as the player finishes the quest but when the player revisits the shipwreck area, Ned is found to be stranded again.
During Mega May, during the case The Eastern Mystery - Part 2, there was an intruder in Ned's home who stole Ned's strong rope, which he sells to sailors for ship tethering. The player must investigate the outside of the house, and interrogate a Shady stranger to learn that someone climbed to the top of the tree outside and jumped to the roof, presumably going into the 1st2nd floor[UK] from there.
After the completion of Dragon Slayer, there are three Neds in RuneScape; one in his rope shop, one on top of Klarense's Cruiser (can be seen from the boat that leads to Pest Control), and one at Crandor, on top of the Lady Lumbridge.
Ned, like many NPCs in Lumbridge and Draynor, used to offer jobs, but it was stopped on the 17 September 2009 update.
During Dragon Slayer, on the Lady Lumbridge, he is referred to as Captain Ned in dialogue.
