Nechryael are level 96 demons that require level 80 Slayer to kill. They are found on the top floor, northwest corner of the Slayer Tower in Morytania and in the Chaos Tunnels. Their drops are very similar to the drops of greater demons but with a higher drop rate of crimson charms and death runes as well as being the only monster to drop rune boots.
Strategy
Even though nechryael are considered by some to be demons, the magical abilities of Silverlight, Darklight and Holy water do not affect them.
Cannons cannot be used as a means to kill them as cannons are not permitted in either of the places nechryaels can be found, but these demons are considered weak for their level. With low lifepoints, low damage and mediocre defence, they can be easily defeated using a powerful crush weapon (their weakness), such as a chaotic maul or dual wield drygore maces. They can also be killed fairly effectively with slashing or stabbing weapons.
A nechryael's main attack is a two handed clawing move that hits up to 276 life points. When engaged in melee combat, a nechryael may randomly summon up to two level 95 death spawns to assist it. These death spawns have a meagre 500 life points and a low max hit of 1 life points, but are very accurate. They can be ignored by high level players, however they can be a nuisance for lower level players.
Most players with a high defence choose to ignore the Death spawn completely because they inflict so little damage that they are not worth the time to defeat. With a two-handed weapon, abilities such as Quake and Hurricane can quickly kill the death spawn without diverting attention away from the nechryael.
Using a Guthan's set against a nechryael is extremely effective if the player has high combat stats.
For those who wish to mage or range nechryael in the Slayer Tower, there is a hole in the floor in the southern part of the room that can be effectively used as a safespot. Another good strategy is to stand behind a death spawn so the nechryael will get trapped behind it. The roof area contains several objects that can be used for safespots, such as a skeleton lying on the floor.
Also a good tip is to use the ability Sacrifice on the death spawns as this almost always will 1 hit them making them almost like a piece of food every other round of combat.
Locations
- Slayer Tower (top floor)
- 71 Agility recommended.
Nechryael are most numerous here, but it is far from a bank. Players with 71 Agility can access an additional level with more Nechryael spawns. Using home teleport (Burthorpe, Ardougne or Lunar Isle recommended) and a slayer ring teleport cuts down time on banking trips.
There are a small number of nechryael in the far north of the Chaos Tunnels: the shortest route passes through gargoyles, mummies, black demons, bronze dragons and dagannoth. There is less room to avoid death spawn in the Chaos Tunnels. Banking can be done via home teleport or amulet of glory to Edgeville. This location is not recommended for players wishing to collect infernal ashes or other drops, due to the distance from a teleport location and the risks involved in returning to the nechryael chamber.
- Daemonheim
- 59 Dungeoneering needed.
There are nechryael on the Abandoned and Occult floors, but this is not recommended as a method of completing a Slayer task as they appear randomly, and the chances of finding one is rare. They do not summon death spawn either, as these are different from other nechryael outside of Daemonheim, and players doing this will receive no profit. They do have a unique drop that other nechryaels don't have, namely the doomcore staff.

Trivia
- The word nechryael appears to be both the singular and plural as indicated by slayer masters when assigning them and giving tips on fighting them and by the Ring of Slaying when checking the progress of the assignment. In this way, nechryael is an irregular plural like sheep. This is also the case with Bloodveld, Dagannoth, Ankou, and Catablepon, among others.
- The old graphics of Nechryael had a pentagram on its chest, a symbol of many religions and a sign that has many occult meanings.
- Nechryael seem to defy the combat triangle; they are weak to crush attacks, which indicate they would be ranged monsters, but only do melee attacks. This also affects other monsters and is most likely an oversight.
