Notice: Competition for many ore types is high. One may find it difficult to make a large profit at ores close to his or her mining level. Additionally, in higher populated worlds, rocks respawn faster.

A way to find the star | Shooting Stars give stardust that can be exchanged for a reward of gold ore, cosmic runes, astral runes and coins. This reward can only be received once per day, but can be a good way to make easy money at lower levels. The maximum reward is 20 gold ore, 152 cosmic runes, 52 astral runes and 50,002 coins. Lower amounts are received for less stardust. Higher mining levels may make it easier to obtain the full reward. Here are some hints on how to find a star: Use a telescope in a Player-owned house or a star chat, often advertised in the Distractions and Diversions section of the Official Forums. |

***** | Level 15 | Mine iron ore in the Dwarven mine -- just outside of the Hidden Resource Dungeon. Three iron rocks are located very close to the Resource Dungeon entrance, which houses a deposit box and allows for extremely fast banking. With this method and good mining gear (Dragon pickaxe and Varrock armour), approximately 868 iron ores per hour may be mined, which equates to 30,380 xp per hour. Additionally, wearing an Amulet of glory and Ring of wealth may also increase coins per hour as a higher chance of mining gems will incur, as with all mining.

The best is the West Varrock Mine due to its proximity to a bank, but the Al Kharid mine is also available. Unfortunately, silver ore rocks only respawn every 2 minutes, which means a lot of time standing around waiting for the ore to become available for mining, which greatly reduces the profit per hour.

Recommended: Gold helmet, Ring of charos(a) | One can mine gold ore in the Dwarven Mines, the Rimmington Mine, or in the Al-Kharid mine (each mine has 2 gold rocks). However, this method is not very effective because of the slow respawn rate of gold (approx. 2 minutes). The player can also mine at the Arzinian Mine which has one-hundred and forty-six rocks. A nearby Dwarven boatman, east of the mine entrance, banks the player's gold ore for a charge of 20% of the gold ores, rounded up. You can also mine at northwest Karamja near Brimhaven, Tzhaar City, and the mine under the Grand Tree (Grand Tree quest required). If you have completed the Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf quest, you can mine gold at the North Keldagrim mining area. And if you have 40 crafting, you can mine from the 7 gold rocks in the Crafting Guild.

Shilo Village (quest) or Level 75 Dungeoneering | One should mine gem rocks in Shilo Village. This is a very crowded place but one can still make a lot of money. You can get very bad gems like uncut opals, and you can get things like uncut emeralds, rubies, and diamonds which go for about 1,749, 3,429 and 7,237 coins respectively. You can get about 200,000-400,000 depending on your luck. Another option is the use the Al Kharid scorpion mine Resource dungeon if achieved level 75 Dungeoneering, this area is usually less crowded.
In order to maximize profit and stay without banking for longer periods of time one may use, if obtained (cannot be bought in GE), a Gem bag from Dungeoneering (with 25 Dungeoneering, 25 crafting), allowing storage of up to 100 gems from Sapphires to Diamonds. The far more common semi-precious gems can be cut and then crafted into bolt tips using a chisel for some fletching and crafting experience, but you will lose money. Banking all gems (even cheap semi precious gems) may earn more money depending on the time spent. |

***** | Level 45 | One should mine granite this way: First, start out at the Shantay Pass. Wear full desert clothing to protect from the heat. One's inventory have be 2 or 4 full waterskins and 200 gold. Walk through the gate and take the carpet ride to Bedabin Camp. From there, run south to the mine and get an inventory full of granite 5kg. Then, cast Home Teleport to Lumbridge. Refill the waterskins at the fountains, run back to shantay pass, and use the bank chest there. Each granite 5kg currently costs 561. Another method is to teleport to clan wars to bank, and then transport back again using the lodestone northeast of the quarry.

Level 45 Dungeoneering | Mine the five mithril rocks in the Mining Guild, the two rocks in the Dwarven mine, the eight mithril rocks in the Mining guild resource dungeon, and the six mithril rocks in the Dwarven mine resource dungeon. Use the drop box in the resource dungeon and a Dragon pickaxe.

***** | Level 85 | Runite ore is the most expensive ore in the game, at 10,429 coins each. It is only found in a few locations, including a few rocks in deep Wilderness. This is one out of the two locations free to play players can mine runite. Members can mine runite at the Heroes' Guild, at the single runite rock on the Fremennik Isles, or in the Lava Maze, although this location is very dangerous. The amount of time it takes runite to respawn is dependent on world population; it will spawn quicker on more-populated worlds. Most players who mine runite tend to switch worlds rather than wait for the ore to respawn. Again this is the same as with Adamantite ore. The amount of time world hopping and waiting decreases the profit per hour. Another effective method of mining runite is using the superior locator, a reward from Mobilising Armies to teleport you to runite rocks. Beware that you can be teleported to the wilderness. Money made using the common "world switching" method, in combination with timing the respawns of the runite ore you already mined, can yield large profits. The most effective methods of mining runite ore include using a Dragon Pickaxe, mining in the Keldagrim North mine (access restricted to those who have completed the quest Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf ), and timing ore respawns based on the current world population.
NOTE: After the release of the resource dungeons, it is possible to mine Runite ore quite safely in the Mining guild resource dungeon(Requires 45 Dungeoneering for access.) There is also a convenient bank deposit box close by. Although this is not recommended due to the fact that the rocks are almost always crowded with players, on both free-to-play and members' worlds. Note: the best thing to do is only mine the item if you are 10 levels above the requirement's. Example: Mine runite ore at level 95 |
