The profit rate assumes 85 trips per hour. Your actual profit rate may be higher or lower depending on your speed.
Crafting lava runes can be incredibly profitable, if using the Magic Imbue spell to negate the need for expensive talismans. At 75 Runecrafting and 93 Summoning, for the giant pouch and abyssal titan familiar, 71 essences can be processed per trip. Using the balloon route from Castle Wars to the Sawmill, approximately 85 trips can be made per hour, for around 6000 lava runes made per hour if you can complete a trip in 42 seconds. Additional profit can be made by using the massive pouch, if they have already been obtained from prior training in the Runespan.
Start in the Castle Wars lobby, fill your pouches and familiar, and grab a willow log. Players can add the pouches to their action bar to help maximize efficiency. Pouches can also be filled while the bank is open using the right-click option and a preset can be used to quickly fill your familiar and remaining inventory space. Note that having full pouches in a preset will not automatically refill them when reloading that preset. Run north-east to the balloon and take it to the sawmill. From the sawmill balloon, enter the Earth Altar, cast Magic Imbue, and craft your lava runes. Start over by teleporting to Castle Wars with your ring of duelling. If you're using Repair Rune Pouch, cast it every 50 trips. If you're using NPC Contact, cast it every ninth trip.
It is also possible to use greater runic staff and charge it with Magic Imbue to store one more pure essence, thus crafting one more lava rune per trip. Alternatively, the astral runes required for magic imbue can be stored in a large rune pouch and then equipped. In addition, the infinity ethereal outfit can store 12 essence.
Lumber Yard Teleport scrolls can reduce time quite a bit, skipping the run to the balloon and the balloon trip. However, the cost of the scrolls can reduce the hourly rate.
If you have Teleport Tokens for your Wicked Hood, you can skip the balloon run—and replace your willow logs with an extra pure essence—by simply teleporting to the Earth Altar with your Wicked Hood. You will have a limited but generous number of these per day which can also increase output and profit if utilized (begin making balloon runs once you run out of teleports).
It is also possible to use the Fire Altar and rings of duelling to bank at castle wars and then teleport to the duel arena.
