The mithril hatchet is stronger than the black hatchet, yet weaker than the adamant hatchet. Like all mithril weapons, it requires 30 Attack to wield, and is slightly lighter than its other hatchet counterparts. It can be used in combat or in Woodcutting to cut trees. 21 Woodcutting is required to cut trees with it. A player with 51 Smithing can make it using 1 mithril bar on an anvil while in possession of a hammer, granting 50 Smithing experience. Mithril hatchets can be obtained as drops from many creatures, such as green dragons, blue dragons, red dragons, black dragons, bronze dragons, basilisks, turoth, kurask, giant rock crabs, cave horrors and spiritual warriors.

A mithril hatchet is required in the Animal Magnetism quest, in which it is combined with a holy symbol and becomes a blessed hatchet. Blessing a hatchet gives it a prayer bonus of +2.

As of 17 June 2013, this hatchet can be stored on a toolbelt.
