The Mithril chainbody provides better bonuses to defence than the black chainbody, and can be worn by a player with level 20 Defence. Players can make a mithril chainbody through the Smithing skill at level 61 by using 3 mithril bars on an anvil while carrying a hammer.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's book, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo Baggins is given a mithril shirt by the elves of Rivindell, although this mithril looks like whitish silver. The best armour available is made of mithril, as demonstrated when Frodo, wearing the shirt, is stabbed by an enraged cave troll, and lives to tell the tale.
