The Mining helmet can be dropped by level 11 Cave Goblin Miners or bought at Miltog's lamp stall in the Dorgesh-Kaan market. It is a common reward for thieving from chests in Dorgesh-Kann. It can also be given by Mistag (once) if you give him his Goblin brooch. Players must have completed the Lost Tribe quest to obtain it, but the quest is not required to equip it. This is extremely useful for going into dark places as it does not take up an inventory place, and because they do not go out on their own, a tinderbox is not needed. Level 65 Firemaking is needed to light it.

The light will go out when in the chamber filled with water in the Haunted Mine quest and also in the Sophanem Dungeon in the Contact! quest. It stays lit if you fail a stepping stone across water, like on the way to Tears of Guthix.
