Meteor shard is an item released during the World Event 3 teaser on 24 May 2015 at 19:00 UTC. They can be mined from crashed rocks before they collapse, and they are also dropped by strange insects. They can be handed in to Wizard Chambers during the Tuska Comes world event for 5 reward points each.
Jagex Moderators can spawn crashed rocks with the JMod Toolbox as demonstrated in a livestream on 26 May 2015.
