Metal dragons

Metal or ferrous dragons are dragons whose hides are metallic. Like metal armour however, the ones with weaknesses are relatively weak to magic attacks. Instead of dragonhide, the metal dragons drop bars of their type of metal. Metal dragons are unlike chromatic dragons in that their fire breath is a long-ranged attack. Because of this, they will not move into melee range, allowing players to fully protect themselves from dragonfire with a combination of antifire potions and anti-dragon shield or super antifire potions (except rune dragons and their superior variant) and stay out of melee range, often minimising how much they are hit, and in most cases completely immunizing themselves from damage. All metal dragons except bronze dragons have a chance of dropping the draconic visage, and all metal dragons except mithril dragons can drop dragon platelegs and dragon plateskirts.

In their history, as learned during One of a Kind the first metal dragons were formed by the Dragonkin when metal was bound to the dragon eggs. Few of the eggs survived the process. Metal was poured not quite on the eggs, but rather more in them. This process required Dragonkin sorcery.[1]

It can be presumed that Forcae was the creator of metallic dragons, as his journal implies heavily about all types of metallic dragons, such as creating the first bronze, iron, mithril, adamant, rune and elite rune dragons.

TypesEdit

Image Type Level Attacks Weakness Locations Notes
Bronze dragon Bronze dragon 86 Melee weakness icon Melee, Dragonfire shield Dragonfire (long-ranged) Water weakness icon Water spells, Tune Bane Ore icon Bane Brimhaven Dungeon, Chaos Tunnels Bronze dragons are the weakest metal dragon and can drop dragon platelegs and skirts. As they have the lowest drop rate for dragon platelegs and skirts, coupled with their inability to drop draconic visages, they are not often killed for anything other than slayer assignments and elite clue scrolls.
Iron dragon Iron dragon 98 Brimhaven Dungeon, Ghorrock, Kuradal's Dungeon, Brimhaven Dungeon resource dungeon Iron dragons are the second weakest metal dragon and can drop dragon platelegs and skirts, as well as draconic visages. They are found near steel dragons.
Steel dragon Steel dragon 100 Brimhaven Dungeon, Ghorrock, Kuradal's Dungeon, Brimhaven Dungeon resource dungeon Steel dragons are the third weakest metal dragon and can drop dragon platelegs and skirts, as well as draconic visages. They are found near iron dragons.
Mithril dragon Mithril dragon 112 Melee weakness icon Melee, Magic weakness icon Magic, Ranged weakness icon Ranged, Dragonfire shield Dragonfire (long-ranged) Earth weakness icon Earth spells, Tune Bane Ore icon Bane Ancient Cavern, Brimhaven Dungeon resource dungeon Mithril dragons use all three combat styles and are also the only metal dragon that does not drop dragon platelegs or skirts, though they are also one of the only dragons to drop dragon full helms.
Adamant dragon Adamant dragon 116 Air weakness icon Air spells, Tune Bane Ore icon Bane Adamant dragon dungeon Adamant dragons use all three combat styles and are capable of dropping dragon platelegs, skirts, full helms and draconic visages. Unlike other metal dragons besides rune and their elite variant, they have a unique bone drop.
Rune dragon (armoured) Rune dragon 127 Zero weakness icon Nothing, Tune Bane Ore icon Bane Mount Firewake Rune dragons use all three combat styles, and feature three phases while initially have impenetrable armour that prevents harming them unless dragonbane bolts or arrows are used for at least the first phase. As well as this, their dragonfire cannot be fully protected against, although the use of super antifire potions reduces the breath's maximum hit to 450. During the final phase, every attack will cause it to become stronger. Unlike other metal dragons besides adamant dragons, they and their elite variant have a unique bone drop. They drop the add-ons for the glacyte boots in order to upgrade them to tier 90 power armour, though these can only be received if the player has the dragons as a slayer assignment. They can also drop dragon platelegs, skirts and the draconic visage.
Elite rune dragon (armoured) Elite rune dragon 130 Elite rune dragons spawn occasionally whilst killing their regular brethren and exhibit the same mechanics as them, though they have higher combat stats making them more challenging to kill. Like their regular counterpart, they drop the add-ons for the glacyte boots in order to upgrade them to tier 90 power armour, as well as being able to drop the Kethsi ring. Elite rune dragons may drop glacyte boots add-ons at any time, regardless of whether the player currently has rune dragons as a slayer assignment. They can also drop dragon platelegs, skirts and the draconic visage.

TriviaEdit

  • According to the Varrock Museum, metallic dragons are also called ferrous dragons, even though this would logically only refer to iron and steel ones.
