The Melee combat tutor, also known as Harlan, is one of the Combat Tutors, available to help out new players, He can be found in the Lumbridge Combat Hall. He gives you a Training sword and a Training shield to those who ask for it. Unlike the Magic tutor and Ranged tutor, you do not require 30 minutes time to ask for another shield or sword. You cannot have the training sword or shield twice.
He is also the master of Defence, in which he will sell a cape of achievement (along with a matching hood) for 99,000 coins to those who have achieved a Defence level of 99.
He and the Defence Tutor are the only combat skillcape sellers who can be found outside a guild. The melee combat tutor wears an alternate version of the training shield himself.

As of the 14th July, 2008 update, the Melee combat tutor gives out jobs and rewards players provided that they do their job. He asks you to give to him 26 oak logs.
