Masked earmuffs is a Slayer item formed when a player combines a Facemask and a pair of Earmuffs. These are first made and used in the Smoking Kills quest, and help protect players against both Banshees and the smoke effects of the Smokey Well and the Smoke dungeon near Pollnivneach. The earmuffs can also offer protection from Dust Devils that players may wish to fight.
Both the Facemask and the Earmuffs (used to make the masked earmuffs) are used to make the Slayer helmet individually. However the Masked earmuffs as an item CANNOT be used to make it. They must be dissassembled into the respective items before a slayer helmet can be constructed.
[edit] Glitch
There was a glitch with these in which female characters with long hair wearing the masked earmuffs would have their heads pop off their bodies, usually when using emotes or performing any other action requiring movement. Standing still would result in the character's head bobbing about or sticking straight out of the body.
