The Maple shieldbow is the fourth strongest shieldbow available to free players, behind its own sighted version. The maple shieldbow requires a Ranged and Defence level of 30 or higher to wield. Players can purchase this bow from some shops that carry Ranged equipment. The maple shieldbow is slower than the maple shortbow, but shoots from a longer distance.
Members can make a maple shieldbow through the Fletching skill at level 55. First, a player must cut an unstrung maple shieldbow from maple logs, granting 58.3 Fletching experience. Then, the player must string the unstrung maple shieldbow with a bow string, granting 58.3 experience.
Like all shieldbows and unlike most other weapons, it incorporates a shield inseparably despite nothing resembling a shield being involved in its creation. Therefore, it provides armour and life point bonuses, and counts as a shield for Defence abilities, such as Rejuvenate. The attack range of the maple shieldbow is 8 spaces.
With level 45 Dungeoneering and 10,000 tokens, a shieldbow sight can be purchased and attached to a maple shieldbow to create a maple shieldbow (sighted), raising its bonuses to those of a level 45 weapon. This also increases the wielding requirements to 45 Ranged and Defence. Unlike its other higher level counterparts, the magic shieldbow (sighted) and the elder shieldbow (sighted), the maple shieldbow (sighted) is not a tier higher than its non-sighted version; its wielding requirements increase by 15 levels instead of 5, and consequently becomes stronger than a yew shieldbow.
This bow was originally members only item. This was changed by Jagex when they believed that the free to play rangers were not as strong as the other two combat classes.
