The magical blastbox is an ammo slot item that is used while Dungeoneering. It can be found as a drop from Forgotten mages. It requires level 30 Dungeoneering, Runecrafting, and Magic to equip. The magical blastbox is equipped in the ammunition slot, and can be bound as an ammunition item. The Smuggler will pay 600 coins for this item. The low alch refund is 800 coins and high alch refund 1200 coins.
It functions as a source of infinite air runes, similar to any air staff, but has the added bonus of being an ammunition slot item. This means that a player can cast any elemental air spell while having another weapon equipped. However, as wooden staves (e.g. the gravecreeper staff) substitute every elemental rune including air, if a player chooses to weild such a staff while maging, the blastbox (and similarly, the surgebox) are not necessary.
This item does not need to be charged in any way to gain its benefits. It offers no combat stats. It is equivalent to the celestial surgebox in that both substitute air runes, the only difference being cosmetic (and the surgebox having higher requirements to weild).
Players who had this item bound before the release of the EOC will still have it, and its functions have been updated correctly.

History
Edit
Before the EOC update, its properties were similar to those of the above-ground magical blastbox, except that it didn't carry the critical hit feature. Although it was possible to charge the blastbox with more than 125 charges, it would only have 125 charges at the beginning of each dungeon unless you have completed Salt in the Wound which would then boost the maximum amount of kept charges to 225. It was one of the two bindable magic ammunitions that gave any combat bonus, the other being the celestial surgebox.

Trivia
Edit
- Jagex also stated in a FAQ that there will be a wave/surge box version. On 2 November 2010 this box, the Celestial surgebox, was released along with the Warped Floors.
- Before the EOC update, when this item gave a spell crit ability, interrupting your casting (by means of eating) would reset the crit ability. You would need to keep striking for five hits for the crit ability to occur.
- The blastbox can continue to be used and attained in Daemonheim even if not previously bound before the Evolution of Combat update.
