Macaw

The Macaw is a level 41 Summoning familiar. It is summoned by using a Macaw pouch, which will give you 0.8 Summoning experience. Apart from having remote view, which lets you see from its eyes when it flies into the air, it can also improve your herb drops, (especially useful when killing Chaos druids, Cave crawlers, Flesh Crawlers, Mighty banshees and Aberrant spectres). It also has a special move called Herbcall, which can be activated if you have a Herbcall scroll in your inventory. Herbcall has a chance of creating random herbs. Macaws also have a small chance of producing a random herb which you can withdraw from them. This happens rarely, so it is not recommended you use the Macaw pouch for this reason.

The Macaw is fairly popular amongst alchemists for its modest Summoning experience and as a passive herb gatherer (although a Magpie is better for passive profit, as it generates valuable items more often than the macaw).

A Macaw is one of two familiars that can be used during the quest Curse of Arrav (Required to complete the quest), to help the player get past the zombie guards.

Macaw pouch

A Macaw pouch is made by using a Summoning pouch on a Summoning obelisk with 78 spirit shards, a green charm and a Guam leaf in the inventory. Making the pouch earns 72.4 experience points. Using the pouch to summon a Macaw gains 0.8 experience points, and costs 3 Summoning points. It seems to also increase seed drops.

Giving a macaw pouch to a beacon keeper in the All Fired Up (minigame) will allow that one keeper to get information about every single beacon in the network, instead of only the two neighbouring them.

Herbcall

A Herbcall scroll enables the use of the Herbcall special move for a Macaw. Using the pouch on a Summoning obelisk creates 10 scrolls. The scroll does not have to be used outside, but many underground areas will not work. 'Herbcall' will never result in a herb whilst within the Slayer Tower.

This scroll can produce all the herbs that monsters normally drop and at a fairly quick rate (2 in about 3 scrolls). This can be a productive way to make money or train herblore, although it does require a bit of patience. Usually the herbs dropped will be low level herbs, commonly guam, harralander and tarromin.

Note: You cannot use the 'Herbcall' scroll continuously as the Macaw will get tired after you use the scroll, and you will have to wait 1 minute before you can use the scroll again.
