The Lunar Spells are a set of spells contained in the Lunar spellbook. The spellbook is unlocked upon completion of the quest Lunar Diplomacy; additionally, completion of Dream Mentor unlocks seven more spells. The spellbook was further expanded with the release of Livid Farm, which offers eight new Lunar spells. While Ancient Magicks focus primarily on combat spells and the standard spellbook contains a mixture of all types of spells, the Lunar spellbook is almost entirely composed of noncombat spells, including teleportation spells, skill-related spells, spells that allow players to aid others in various ways, and miscellaneous spells with unique effects. All Lunar spells make use of astral runes, with the exception of Home Teleport, which is, as always, free. In total, the spellbook contains forty-eight spells.
The Lunar spellbook contains no direct combat spells that are cast on targets to deal damage, lower stats, or otherwise give negative effects. Rather, most Lunar spells are strictly noncombat spells which offer various benefits to some skills such as Crafting and Farming. Some Lunar spells allow players to aid others in various ways, such as curing poison, offering teleportation, and restoring life points.
A few Lunar spells can be used to indirectly influence combat. Vengeance and Vengeance Other are two highly sought-after spells which will reflect back damage to monsters or players. Boost Potion Share and Stat Restore Pot Share are used to distribute stat-boosting and stat-restoring potions, respectively, to other players.
Some spells have individual effects that do not fit into any particular category. Monster Examine and Stat Spy allow the caster to view information about monsters and players, respectively. Dream significantly increases the rate at which life points regenerate.
NPC Contact allows the caster to speak to several important NPCs from a distance. Spellbook Swap, the spell with the 2nd highest Magic requirement in the Lunar spellbook after Borrowed Power, enables the caster to use a spell from a different spellbook.
In order to use the spellbook, the quest Lunar Diplomacy must be completed. This requires that players also complete The Fremennik Trials, Lost City, Rune Mysteries, and Shilo Village.
To unlock more spells, the quest Dream Mentor must be completed, which further requires the player to have completed Eadgar's Ruse.
The last set of spells can be unlocked by completing the Livid Farm.
The skills required to unlock all the spells in the Lunar spell book can be seen in the table to the right.
Once the Lunar spellbook is unlocked, players can switch to it by praying at the astral altar on the southeastern area of Lunar Isle. Unlike the altar in Jaldraocht Pyramid where players switch to and from Ancient Magicks, the astral altar will not drain Prayer points when prayed at.
Automatically bakes all uncooked pies in the caster's inventory without risk of burning. One set of the required runes is required for each baked pie; baking ten pies, for example, requires ten astral runes, fifty fire runes, and forty water runes. The Cooking experience for baking the pies is granted when the spell is used.
Casting this spell on a monster reveals the monster's combat level, current life points, and maximum melee hit, as well as whether the monster can be a slayer assignment. If the monster uses a combat style other than melee, the style(s) in particular are mentioned as well.
Allows the caster to telepathically speak to a variety of NPCs. With NPC Contact, a number of tasks can be performed from a distance, including managing slayer assignments, collecting buckets of sand from Bert, managing Miscellania with Advisor Ghrim, and repairing damaged Runecrafting pouches thanks to the dark mage. The spell can also contact a random NPC, with generally humourous results.

The caster enters a dream-like state wherein life points regenerate at five times the normal rate (5 life points per 6 seconds, or 50 life points per minute). This spell stacks additively, rather than multiplicatively, with other regenerative effects such as Rapid Heal. Similar to resting, the effect ends if the caster does anything except chat, including move, trade or cast another spell.
When cast on a piece of food, this spell enchants the food to be usable on a Summoning familiar. When a familiar eats spiritualised food, its life points are restored, its combat stats are boosted, and its duration timer is replenished.

If cast on a potion that boosts stats (such as a strength potion), the caster distributes 1 dose to each player within a 3x3 square area of the caster. Players must have Accept Aid on in order to benefit from this spell. Because Saradomin brew and Zamorak brew lower some skills and deal damage respectively, Boost Potion Share will not function with them.

The Lunar Spellbook is extremely popular as a support system in large group battles against monsters because of their ability to heal allies and then swiftly heal themselves with Dream; they are especially popular if they have completed Dream Mentor and can use Ancient Magicks because of the Spellbook Swap spell allowing them to use the healing abilities of the Lunar spellbook and aggressive Ancient Magick spells such as Ice Barrage.
Currently no Lunar Spells can be autocast, this may be due to the fact that there are no combat spells.
When the rest feature was added, the lifepoint-restore rate for the Dream spell was changed from three times faster to five times faster.
On 28 July 2009, the Lunar spell book received a graphical update.
When you reach the Magic level 67 needed for the NPC Contact spell, the congratulation box says that 'Members can now cast NPC Contact (after Dream Mentor)', although the quest is required to comunicate only with some characters or "random".

Energy transfer was a spell that when cast on another player, the targeted player received 100% of the caster's special attack energy and some run energy. This could only be cast in a multi combat area and when the caster had a full special attack bar. It required level 91 magic and three astral runes, two law runes and one nature rune to be cast. It was removed with the introduction of the Evolution of Combat because special attack bars were removed, rendering this spell useless.
The Moonclan state that Lunar magic comes from the power of Gielinor's moon, which has since been revealed to be Zanaris. This may explain why the Lunar Staff is a modified Dramen Staff (the item used to reach Zanaris).
