Lesser demons are a kind of demon weaker than the closely-related greater demons, categorised by the absence of wings. They have 5000 life points, a maximum hit of 200 damage, hit at the speed of a scimitar or mace, and regenerate at an average rate of 20 life points per minute. All Lesser demons found within Daemonheim or otherwise can use magic as a projectile attack. When assigned by Vannaka or Chaeldar as a slayer assignment, killing a demon grants 90.5 slayer experience. Previously, K'ril Tsutsaroth and his body guards were classified as lesser demons and could be defeated to receive Slayer experience. However, this was changed by Jagex and is no longer the case.

Medium level players sometimes kill these monsters for experience as they have low defence, especially against bolts. Higher levels are recommended to avoid training on these monsters as they have poor drops for their level compared to similarly-levelled monsters (the rune helm drop is too rare to amass decent profits). In free to play, players can train on cockroach soldiers as they have similar defence but much better drops. However, cockroaches don't drop ashes or bones, so they can't be used to train prayer. Also, it's best to train on lesser demons and avoid cockroach soldiers if you're training range. This is because, lesser demons have a weakness to ranged attacks and cockroach soldiers don't.

The lesser demon is the fourth strongest non-revenant, non-quest monster in free-to-play, only to be beaten by greater demons in the Wilderness, hellhounds in the Wilderness Volcano, and deadly red spiders which are located in various locations. They are one of the strongest free-to-play monsters found outside of the Wilderness. One is fought as a boss in Melzar's Maze during Dragon Slayer in order to obtain the Green Key required for one of the map pieces. This is the fourth monster to have the title: Strongest Monster in RuneScape from RuneScape Classic. It was the strongest monster available to Instant Demo players.

TrainingEdit

Lesser demons are effective training monsters for players that are medium to high levelled (around mid 90s to low 100s combat level). Since Karamja has many fishing spots, players may fish for food on the island if they run out, or members can go through the cave and go to the bank in TzHaar City to re-stock on food. Fighting the lesser demon in the Wizards' Tower can be good for training Magic, Ranged, or alternatively melee using a halberd since the demon spawns inside of a magical ward. The respawn time of a lesser demon is quick, which means experience may be gained quickly killing them. It is recommended for meleers to wear strong armour such as adamant, rune or Barrows armour for meleers, and rangers and mages should take a few pieces of good food in case they are attacked while the lesser demons are aggressive. With blue dragonhide and a good bow, a player could easily kill a lesser demon, although a few pieces of food may be necessary.

Lesser demons are affected by the powers of Silverlight and Darklight, which increase damage inflicted by 60%. However, many players find these weapons to still be rather inaccurate. F2P players are instead recommended to use a rune weapon, preferably the scimitar, longsword, or battleaxe. Two-handed swords are very accurate on demons due to their slash bonus, but they are only recommended for players with good defence, as they are two-handed. Members should use a dragon weapon or barrows weapon; higher level weapons are not necessary for a monster of this level.

New players who are using Magic or Ranged may go to the Wizards' Tower and kill the trapped lesser demon. However, this spot often gets crowded, and players may not get much experience. Bringing a few law runes and a staff of air to tele-grab any good drops (such as the rune helm) is advised. Otherwise it will not be possible to pick up any of the demon's drops. With the recent update that introduced urns, it is possible to train prayer at this location as well, without using tele-grab; when the demon is slain, its accursed ashes are directly added to the accursed urn without any action by the player.

A rapid way to kill demons and bank their drops or pick up food is to use the explorer's ring 3 or higher. Cabbage-port, run to the pier, go to the Karamja dungeon, kill demons, cabbage-port when you have enough, and deposit the drops at the deposit box near the Entrana ship or pick up food at the Draynor bank. The ring will double up as an emergency teleport as its animation is unhindered by attacks. This method was somewhat outdated with the introduction of lodestones; the Port Sarim lodestone in combination with the Edgeville stone and bank may be faster. Lodestone teleport is interupted by combat and cannot be used as an emergency teleport.

Prayer Training (F2P) Edit

Medium-Higher level players using melee or any safe-spotters may opt to use these for free prayer training, in conjunction with accursed urns. With 790 LP, Assuming the player can kill at a rate of 1 per 15–30 seconds, one could earn 375xp per 6–13 minutes, averaging 37.5xp/min. At this rate, if compared to big bones, one would save 67350 coins an hour. Optimally, if one could defeat one lesser every 10 seconds, this rate would become 900xp/min, or 161640 coins an hour, should this make it. This method can be extremely effective as it saves time by not having to pick up and scatter ashes.

In addition, players training at the Karamja volcano have the option of picking up two regular bone spawns that appear quite frequently.

Champions' ChallengeEdit

Lesser demons are one of the 'races' who have lesser champions in the Champions' Challenge Distraction and Diversion. To fight the Lesser Demon Champion, the player must kill lesser demons until one drops a Champion scroll, which is an extremely rare drop (1 in 5000).

TriviaEdit

  • On 29 Jan 2013, all lesser demon received a graphical update. Now they all look similar to the lesser demon in the Wizards' Tower.
  • As of the 29 August 2006 update, the lesser demons' appearances were tweaked by Jagex, giving the demons a more unique and distinguished look than prior to this update. There are also different "forms" of lesser demon that look different.
    • In another update, their defending animation and sounds were updated.
  • The lesser demon located in the Wizards' Tower holds the name "Lemmy", as mentioned by Saradomin in one of his god letters. However, in the 2011 Christmas event it is called Timmy. Another is named Carrot, from the first Postbag from the Hedge.
  • The lesser demons located in Karamja is one of the locations you will see The Raptor.
  • As of the 20 November 2012 update, lesser demons can now attack with magic.
    • However, the demon trapped in the Wizards' Tower still cannot attack players. It also lacks a dying animation, although it has a unique respawning animation. Arrows shot at this demon immediately disappear.
  • During Do No Evil, Eruni summons level 110 lesser demons that attack with melee and are weak to water spells.
