Kayle's sling detail
Sling
A player using Kayle's sling

Kayle's sling was a two-handed Ranged weapon. It required a Ranged level of 1 to wield and did not require ammunition of any kind. It replaced Kayle's shortbow so new players could train ranged without arrows.

After the Evolution of Combat, it was replaced with Kayle's chargebow.

It offered a +6.5 ranged strength bonus and a +5 ranged attack bonus, and was thus better than a normal sling. It had the same speed as a shortbow. This weapon was popular among low levelled players due to the fact that no ammunition was required and that it was given freely as a quest reward for completion of The Blood Pact. If lost, it could be re-obtained from Xenia, outside the Lumbridge Catacombs, along with the other cultists' weapons. Pures could get one by starting the quest, grabbing Kayle's sling and then going outside without completing it.

It was a good training weapon for low levelled rangers, because it was free and had better Ranged strength than bronze and iron knives, although it was slightly slower and was a two-handed weapon so many players preferred to use knives regardless. It was much more useful in free worlds, as it had attack strength near to bronze arrows but without need for ammo, and was thus ideal to be used against weak monsters to train.

Along with the regular sling, Kayle's Sling could not be used for PvP, doing so caused the chatbox to display a message saying you cannot, which made this a great range weapon for using or safespotting in the wilderness, as you can't attack players unless they disarm you.

When a player's Ranged level increased to 5 (or using a few times while already having at least level 5), equipping the Sling would result in a message stating that at this ranged level, it would be better to use a bow. It would also direct you to the advisory icon in the corner of the screen. After clicking through the first message, there were no future messages about the sling not being recommended for the Ranged level.

Continued use of the sling is not recommended at this Ranged level. You will find more benefit from using a shortbow with arrows or a crossbow with bolts.

To learn about ammo, click on the advisor button.

Like the sling, Kayle's sling had a 0.9x damage multiplier; it hit 90% as much as would be expected with its Ranged Strength.[1]

TriviaEdit

  • When dying against another player with the sling on and Retribution activated, the prayer would not do any damage to the other player. The game message said that the sling cannot work in PvP.
