Karambwan can be fished by players with level 65 Fishing or higher, granting 105 Fishing experience per catch. Karambwan can be caught with a karambwan vessel by members who have started the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest. The vessel uses Karambwanji bait obtained by using a small net in the lake south of Tai Bwo Wannai (Fairy ring CKR).
Fishing spot is the north east of the Karamja main island north of the ship yard. Fairy ring DKP is very close.
Karambwan, similar to raw beef on a range, can be cooked in two different ways, poorly and thoroughly. Cooking poorly requires a Cooking level of 1 and grants 80 Cooking experience, making poison karambwan. Eating poison karambwan will damage the player for 5 poison damage, however it only poisons once and not constantly, unlike most other poison. However, this trait can be advantageous: if a player uses a poison karambwan with a pestle and mortar, they create karambwan paste which can be used to poison spears. A karambwan can also be thoroughly cooked by a player with 30 Cooking, granting 190 Cooking experience and turning the raw karambwan into a cooked karambwan. However, in order to thoroughly cook it, a player must complete Tai Bwo Wannai Trio and talk to Tiadeche in his hut to learn how. Otherwise, players can only cook it into poison karambwan.
Karambwan is a fairly uncommon food due to its odd cooking procedure. While being unusual it is a relatively high healing food, healing 18 hitpoints, which is only 2 less then shark.
A common scam was to offer low-hp players a partially cooked karambwan in the hope that they will get poisoned and die, dropping their items for the scammer to pick. This scam was especially popular before the 8 July 2007 update, when it was possible to expel low-hp players from a POH and their HP would stay low. However, partially cooked karambwans have recently been renamed "poison karambwans" to better warn players not to eat it.
After the quest, Karambwan may be fished in the north-east corner of Karamja (south of Musa Point).
