Iron oxide is a quest item used in the One Small Favour quest. It is obtained by talking to the Tindel Merchant in Port Khazard. The player is asked to stuff the Merchant's stodgy mattress in return for the iron oxide. The oxide must then be taken to Wizard Cromperty in Ardougne in order to complete the next step in the quest.
[edit] Trivia
- The examine is accurate because Iron oxide is the chemical name for rust.
- However, the name of the item is inaccurate because Iron (Fe) has 2 different ions with 2 different charges on them. For example, iron (II) is the iron ion with a +2 charge and iron (III) is iron ion with the +3 charge. Oxygen has a -2 charge and ionic bonds between these 2 elements must always add up to 0 in their charges, so the numbers of each element making up two potential ionic bonds are different. If Oxygen combines with the +2 Ion it is iron (II) Oxide or FeO, and the charges of both will add up to zero because the +2 ion of iron and Oxygen's ionic charge of -2 add up to 0. If Oxygen forms an ionic bond with iron's +3 ion it is iron (III) Oxide or Fe2O3, because 2*3-3*(-2) = 0 (Please change numbers into subscripts please. Thank you)
